Maybe I don't know much about boxing but one pond doesn't seem that bad to me. Isn't that stuff part of the game these days. Floyd uses it every time he fights. I don't know, one pound may mess up the routine but I don't think it would be major. If I am completely wrong could someone explain it to me.
Don't you love catchweights![]()
Cold Heart and a Weak Mind
The heaviest Martinez has ever fought was 159.5... and that only happened twice.
0.5 lb don't mean shit. End of debate.
Well then why do it? When Martinez was at 154, a big spectacle was made of him climbing up to 180 between fights. He's not any younger now, and it's likely just as difficult to make 160 now as it was to make 154 then. It's a stupid clause by Cotto's camp (don't believe Cotto himself has a say in this), catchweights simply shouldn't exist. Boxing's divisions are cramped as hell, catchweights are absolutely absurd when we have 16 divisions separating 90 lbs of combatants. No need for them, at least there shouldn't be.
Calling Cotto "Kneeguel" is unbelievable though. You are the same guy who made a thread about Oscar Gonzalez' passing. Think about that for a minute. Cotto was beat the fuck up and took a knee after one of the most entertaining fights of the decade. I understand you like to poke and prod at people, but would you have rather seen him dead like Oscar Gonzalez? Gonzalez spit out his mouthpiece and quit in his fight. Coward right?
lol
I'm a Cotto fan but he looks like a bit of a pinhead. I mean he actually did himself a disservice here. Should he win well one can imagine what ensues. Somehow it will be twisted into the reason he won lol even though the facts were in on Sergio's previous weight. He already looks like a bit of a schlep by making such a big deal over the billboard.
Martinez is the middleweight champion. His 160 pound title is at stake. He has to be within that range. I like Cotto and I am a fan but he is a guest in the house of Martinez and he has paid some dues as well. My belief not an opinion which is an unsubstantiated belief is that while we accommodate a guest it is still our abode. 160 is the limit and if Martinez agrees to give up a pound and all is well at the castle then so be it. Bottom line, catch weights and demands on a champion no matter how small is unfair unless he agrees otherwise take a long walk off a short pier as we used to hear in boot camp, rules are fucking rules.
