Re: All u Mayweather nut-huggers need to read this article....
This author is making some points but I think some of the finer details are being omitted. Like Shane Moselys leap to welterweight when Mayweather and Judah wanted to fight him. Someone like Baldomir was an like an elimination of sorts. Judah was supposed to look great against Baldomir and then promote the fight with mayweather. As it happened Baldomir didnt read the script and beat judah.
Believe it or not this article is more about boxing than it is about mayweather. Its a sport but its also a profession. Mayweather's choice of opponents seems to be really about who he can keep the most money against and dictate the terms to. He went for guys that needed the money. 85% of a 100 million dollar fight is still more than 50% of a 150 million dollar fight. He fought the guys that didn't couldn't draw on their own, much of time. They needed the money and would make concessions to make the fight. This is why the pacquiao fight was never made. Mayweather wanted all the money and most of the power or all the Power and most of the money. He won't let our enjoyment get in the way of his ego and cash flow. (love him or hate him). He knew that if he hung in there long enough Pacquaio would lose or have some issue that would swing the argument in Mayweather's favor.... and eventually Manny would need him to make the fight like so many other people before. The problem is Manny is probably drawing just as much now as before the losses. The 0 doesn't mean as much as mayweather would like it to mean.
This is why many big fights aren't made now. The business of boxing gets in the way. It used to be that 2 guys would look to fight each other and make more than either of them have ever made. At the same time they could prove who was best. Now a days guys don't have to be exciting as long as people tuned in to see him possibly get knocked out.
The sportsmanship is an afterthought now. If a fighter could find a way to go out every week for millions and get beat almost to death but never get fully knocked out (to avoid mandatory rest time) and come back in the last second to ko his opponent to keep an unbeaten streak, he would. But that only happens in professional wrestling. I have to give Dana white credit for the Bonuses (KO/Submission of the night, etc) they tend to even things up for the guys that are rated on persona alone. You could have 0 personality and your opponent can be a star but if you Knock him/her out, you instantly netted more money and even things up a little.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.
