Thanks, dude.
That incompetent translator made it sound like Maidana disrespecting Mayweather bigtime which wasn't the case at all. Thanks for clearing it up here, Maravilla, it's too bad that millions of people will continue to think Maidana insulted Mayweather by saying he "did not fight like a man."
1 - Maidana
2 - Maidana
3 - Maidana
4 - Maidana
5 -Maidana
6 - Maidana
7 - Mayweather
8 - Mayweather
9 - Mayweather
10 - Mayweather
11 - Maidana
12 - Maidana
Overall - 116 -112 Maidana
I was surprised because I initially thought it was closer, but Maidana outhustled his man and it had shades of Duran/Leonard. Mayweather was that bit slower, his legs are going, and thus Maidana got him on the ropes again and again, and those body shots just could not miss. Overall the flashier punching was from Mayweather, but it was in spurts and in 4 rounds. Otherwise, Maidana was outlanding Mayweather and forcing him out of his comfort zone again and again. Maybe another, but less apt, but more so in terms of where Floyd is, is Jones Jr/Tarver 1. Jones got the nod, but looked asleep and next time out was asleep.
Give Maidana his punchers gloves, another camp to work on the method, and Mayweather another period of aging, and Maidana might well stop him. Mayweather against Pac is a tedious chore we all talk about now, but both fighters have declined, so it is still a pick 'em.
I also want to apologise to Al Bernstein who I saw was scoring the fight in a way I could understand except towards the end. I have been critical elsewhere, but he was the more accurate of Showtimes crew and that is usually the case. He's usually very decent. It was the other two Showtime scorers that I thought were very off and certainly so at the half way mark. On watching the fight again, the single first half round I gave to Mayweather elsewhere was taken away as I prefer aggression over flashy pot shots. Likewise, a round I gave to Maidana in the second half was taken away as he didn't do enough either.
I'm surprised to see so many think Mayweather won as the rounds he won, he won convincingly with a much higher connect rate, but Maidaina seemed to outland him in a lot of rounds. I also feel a lot of those body shots and clean jabs to the body by Maidana were likely ignored by Showtime's stats. At times Maidana was handling his own in the middle of the ring, but he was more effective when bullying Mayweather and he did that a lot.
I don't believe Mayweather when he says he wanted to give the fans what they wanted. He has seldom done that unless forced into it and age and Maidana's strength forced it. You don't sit on the ropes eating 5 straight body punches and 2 to the head from a fighter like Maidana to milk the crowd. You don't let him do enough to outwork you either in an effort to impress people. The man is older and the opponent refused to play the game by forcing the pace. 2007 Hatton would have enjoyed facing this Mayweather, a lot of opportunities to unload to the body, very open to the head too, with these slowing reflexes. Still, amazing, but opportunities are revealing themselves a lot more now.
Miles i seen you on the site for a while but i think you are seeing this fight through different eyes then most people are. i mean you fucking hate Mayweather and give any close round to the other guy. The fact that you gave him the 11th is nuts and you don't think he could of won any early rounds at all.
I don't like Mayweather, but I respect him as fighter, and felt sorry for him after 4. He lost each of those 4 rounds and occasional landed pot shots do not win rounds for me. He was getting bullied and beaten up. I don't think he was active enough to win the first half of the fight at all. He was like Hopkins in his final days at MW and not throwing enough punches to win rounds and at least Hopkins didn't use to sit on the ropes in the half a fight he would take off. Maidana was more active than Mayweather in the 11th, forced Mayweather to fight his fight, and landed the harder shots.
I like aggression, output, and Maidana, though clumsy, landed hard and constantly pushed Mayweather to the ropes and worked. Over 220 recognised landed punches suggests that Maidana won his share of the rounds and like I say in the rounds I give Mayweather he outlanded Maidana a lot, so many of his scored punches came in those 4 rounds and Maidana logically must have been outlanding him in scores of other rounds. I suspect the round by round punch stats will suggest as much.
And we can trust you to give an unbiased assessment...after all...look at your .gif of Floyd. Stop being a hater man...your score is preposterous and you know it. Maidana wasn't out landing shit...he threw a ton more punches and missed a ton more. A good, close fight...but Mayweather won. Keep hating and look like a silly school kid.
The only silly school kids are those who bandy about words like 'hater' and froth at the mouth just because a fighter has lost a step and lost more rounds than he won. There is no shame in Floyd getting old, but he was definitely getting out hustled and worked over hard in the first half of the fight. Post fight he clearly wasn't himself either and that is after making his opponent wear pillows. I felt sorry for him, it happens to the best of them.
On the night of the fight I think I gave Mayweather round 5, but I don't think he did enough on reappraisal. Now you can call that hate, but at the same time I took away a round round Maidana also. It must mean I hate him too. I mean how preposterous of me to rewatch a fight a fight and take a round from him when I have a humorous Mayweather gif. Clearly Maidana 12 - 0.
All I can do is call it as I see it. I dislike Amir Khan too and think he should have been docked points, but I don't take issue with that win. It involved a lot of cheating, but he clearly outworked his opponent most of the fight. I struggle to take rounds from people who work hard, throw, and land a lot of punches. Did I say Guerrero beat Mayweather? Canelo? Marquez? Judah? I am consistent in this regard. I see it as I see it and I saw Mayweather lose.
Final post before I depart for now. My initial appraisal was about 7-5 Maidana on a bad stream. Second appraisal 8-4 Maidana. I can see how some might have it a draw or even the tightest of Mayweather wins. That's as honest as I can be. I gave my honest score and people can accept it how they like. Few are putting their scores up, but are happy to bandy about fanboy terminology. I saw a great fighter get old. Sometimes talking about a fight is like drawing a picture of Mohammed or saying Jesus likely had a girly hair-do and a thing for dresses. How dare you depict that he was a mere mortal etc! Steady on chaps.![]()
It is formulated from far more stable origins than Mayweather 117-111. The enhancement of HD only highlighted for me more clearly just how many body shots and jabs were getting through that I didn't see on a stream. 7-5 is only a round away. 6-6 only 2 rounds away. 7-5 Mayweather only 3 rounds away. I can comprehend all 3, though I didn't see it. Mayweather makes people watch through a pair of tinted spectacles and I won't wear them. I won't wear them, I tell you. I just won't wear them. Never. Not in in a million years. Not on your nelly. 7-5 Maidana was with the specs on and that's my lot. You ain't getting nothing more out of me, thy folks. I sayeth nay. I sayeth nay.
My stream is likewise choppy but I have seen more than 90% of the fight and I find it in favor of Maidana. If the portion that I missed would go in Mayweather's favor, then it may well be a draw.
