I'm not even a baseball fan, but most folks in the USA and many here in Canada are aware of the 1919 pro baseball Black Sox scandal where one team conspired to throw the World Series in exchange for money from gamblers.
For those Yanks, Baseball is the national pastime, and to them it's unforgivable that a team at the pinnacle of the sport, The World Series, would throw the game for money.
8 players were banned from baseball for life.
I don't understand why anyone would be surprised at that, it's a Capitalist society, for $#!t's sake !!!
Hollywood films have been made about it, novels, songs, tv specials.
Anyway, in 1978, a pile of old news reels were found preserved in permafrost in Dawson City, Yukon. The Black Sox scandal film has been sitting in Gatineau, Quebec. With hundreds of news reels, I guess the Canadians just didn't realize what they had there.
