It's because he's 15 years old. He's always had that acne problem all the way through his career. Watching Merchant interview him now and he looks contagious.

ACNE:

Rampant acne is one of the more obvious indicators of steroid use. When taking anabolic steroids, an adult will commonly be confronted with this same problem.
