This happened when Jessie James Leijia fought Micky Ward. It happened when Leijia fought Camacho Jr. And it happened with Robert Gurrero on a couple of occasions I believe. Referee Laurence Cole was suspended when he tried to make it happen with JMM against Jimrex Jaco. It’s not all that unusual because a win is a win and as Al Bravverman once said, there is no such thing as a bad win.

Cole also worked the Leija-Ward fight too. Leija was initially opened up in the 1st round off left hooks inside and Cole ruled headbutt, and fought with it until they passed the required round where his corner got really vocal about how bad it was. Camacho frankly just opted out I thought, and Leija ripped him a new one for not wanting to fight and how he fought cut his entire career. So much irony

Donaire must forgot his usual A-side meth. Motherfuckers could walk through bullets and shit like in Vietnam and the Filipino/American War. These Orientals be winning fights and shit being on that shit. Nah mean?

Yeah it was bizarre. I feel bad for both though, no discredit to Nonito because he fought through it and you could tell the last doctor stoppage, Donaire was protesting a bit. Pabon and Nonito did seem to have a word at the end of the 4th though and it was stopped immediately afterwards. I don't know, that one didn't go down well but good on to Nonito for offering the rematch.

Merchant was pitiful and pathetic. F--king fossil needs to retire and stay retired. LMFAO when the South African was talking to him in his native tongue.

I really need to see this fight now. Been reading at other forums that posters are calling Donaire a coward and quitter.

Give me a break : Here is the Great Nonito / Arum farce in detail the Arum recipe is have to have his PPV fighters fight a reputable name that attracts attention but they have to have a loss in at least one fight in last three.

Vazquez: 2 wins and 2 losses in last four fights (including a KO to Arce) Promoted by Top Rank
Mathebula: Promoted by Arum , only 21 years old and 4 wins and 3 losses in last seven fights.
Nishioka: Befuddled by record . He looked like a tentative amateur. He is promoted by Top Rank in association with Teiken Promotions and Tecete
Arce : Was way too small in move up to fight Nonito . Promoted by Top Rank. I have seen this rerun already it’s called Manny Pacquiao …..

BS P4P mention !!! He won fighter of the year but only should have won “Top Rank fighter of the year” website award. He lost in his only true challenge and avoided Garcia, Mares, and Santa Cruz. Won fighter of the year with this stupid ass resume yet JMM KO’s the fighter of the decade and nada. Had PAC KO’d JMM trust me he would be fighter of the year.

Fine, call him out on the fact that you don't think he's a great fighter or didn't deserve the foty but you are crazy if you think that any of your other claims have any basis. That was a disgusting cut that he fought through and knocked his opponent out through, everyone else (except maybe the ref) was doing their job properly and that includes Donaire. If it was Donaire who got knocked down and if the cut seemed harmless you would halfway make sense, but right now you don't. Deep breath and take your obvious Donaire animosity aside, Nonito is not a bitch. He was a fucken warrior today.

I agree with you and I like the reason behind the rule. Fights should not be decided by "accidental" head butts. If the rule was not in place, the head butt would be a major weapon.
To be fair to the referee, he was asking the doctor to look at the cut. He was looking for some help to decide to stop the fight, in my opinion.
All that BS aside, I never saw a real clash of heads. The referee saw it, both the fighters seemed to agree it was a head butt, but I never saw the one that caused the cut.

the south african was not dirty! he was a warrior. nonito was a warrior too the way he came back and knocked him down, but i DO think he was looking for and doing everything he could to get the docs to stop the fight. squinting and wiping like crazy. whining. it was a bad cut though. BUT fighters throughout history have went thru much worse damage and continued to fight!!! just seems like nonito acted like a bitch a little bit. at least he gave him a rematch option. id like to see it again....not a bad fight.

That is not relevant. "What would have happened" never went to fruition. Pabon allowed the fight to continue to the 4th round point. The fight should have been called a NC OR ND. The guy should be horse whipped. It was a farce designed to get a TR poster boy another strap. It was a fix plain and simple.

What killed me was Donaire referring to the ref saying it was bad in about the 2nd but Donaire insisting ( saying he did) he had to continue, no I can go on etc. and after his strongest round and securing a KD it was all changed. A ref should not need to 'look' for help from other officials, hang over the rope discussing it prior to making a decision on stopping it...that was not the Doctor he was having a conference with from what I saw.
