Roach can't be that good at it... Look what just happened to Provodnikov.

Roach is always right and proper.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
No he is not right. Cotto was winning that fight regardless of the weight limit and knee brace. He had nothing left. If he really knew/believed that they wouldnt have made those stupid demands as it would make Cotto looks a lot better.
I dont think Roach is anything special as a trainer although for the most part I dont see a trainer needing to be particularly good to have sucess.
Such an overrated trainer and a twat on top of it.
I think most trainers today in the spotlight are overrated celebrities and that includes Roach but in this specific case there is little doubt in my mind that he was a major contributing factor in the win. He's still a trainer and knows the game and the nuances of footwork and especially how to fight a southpaw. Its not fair to discount the man from where we are all sitting. He may not be Ray Arcel but he's no Papa Trinidad either.
They executed a game plan almost flawlessly. They knew that Martinez relied more on his athleticism and reflexes then boxing fundamentals. They also knew that these two things had deteriorated over the past couple of years. From that they most likely theorized that they could take the ring away and pull the fight to Sergios left in order to scalp him with the right hand. The added bonus being Sergio's lazy left hand. And that's exactly what they did.
Yeah he's an odd fellow. He says all kinds of strange things out of the blue. May even take advantage of his disease to get away with shit.
We all have our flaws. He's a pretty good trainer in a field of posers that just cling on to a talent already established. I've always maintained that the best trainers are poor, friendless, live above or at the gym and like it that way.
It's not like Prod got blown out. You have some validity with your statement of him being one dimensional but his dimension has brought him through a number of successful fights. Even this one an argument could be made that Prod won. I scored it a draw which I think is a fair call. I think Prods style continues to evolve and I think this fight in the end will help him improve.
I know there is a lot of hating here on Roach but I think he deserves the credit he gets in the boxing world. Khan left but I think he was immature under his Roach tutelage. Roach always got annoyed with Khans showboating which is evidence that Khan did not follow Roaches lead. Khan made the right move leaving Roach as I think he needed to start from scratch. Anyway, I can see Prod having a successful career and I see Roach playing a big part in that.
