Have we had Meldrick Taylor v Chavez because he gave it his all.

Also Vargas v Tito, Fernando was never the same again.

if you are going to lose you go out on your shield.

I wouldn't put the Taylor fight because in theory he won. Just a miserable decsion on Steele's part. And he rightfully was removed from top level fights after that.

Vargas nor Taylor were the same, but man, it still hurts me to this day thinking about that stoppage. Vargas lost...but you're right he went out on his shield.

Chavez even stated post fight Meldrick was landing 3 to his 1. Yes Taylor pissed blood and yes he was battered, but 2 seconds?

Yes that must hurt if you were a Taylor fan. I loved Chavez and thought it was a fair stoppage.

I thought Tito did some dirty fighting against Vargas.

Roy gained my admiration and respect with how he handled his "loss" in the 88 Olympics. That guy dominated and he showed nothing but class when he was completely screwed by the judges. Not sure how many guys on here ever met Roy but he is a genuinely good man and unbelievably down to earth (or was the few times I met him).

I think I was more pissed than Roy was when it happened. I actually wondered if RJJ would turn pro after that noon-of-day robbery he suffered.

Hows about when Shannon 'Lets go champ' Briggs got beat up consistently for 12 rounds against big Klit?

He was basically a human punch bag but he refused to go down and he refused to give up even though if I remember his face was a mess and the ref was still looking to stop the fight with 10 seconds to go.

He showed some real heart in that fight

Hayes didnt get the win. He did throw a lot of arm punches. But he lost while throwing everything he could.

Pernell Whittaker against Tito Trinidad. He was clearly half shot and wasn't able to do what he relied on most for his whole career, took way more punishment than he'd ever had to, yet dogged it out and hung in there as if he had a punchers chance anyways. He showed he had that in him against Hurtado I guess, but that's a fight where he was behind, not getting the hell beaten out of him in.

Marcos Maidana against Floyd is a good one also. People say that fight was close because Maidana showed a lot more than anyone expected. I took this thread to mean don't include fights that were actually close or could have gone the other way, so those are the best I can think of for now.

Oh I know, just the way I was trying to come at it I guess. With give and take wars that go the distance, both guys generally have my respect and there are far to many to list.

Does anyone remember Julian Letterlough? There is no boxing on TV in Canada any more but there was occasionally years back when I started watching, and they replayed a couple of his fights time to time. Check this one out, crazy fight.

Would never know Holyfield for example had to earn respect.

Going into his fight with Riddick. .he was ridiculed.
Past it Michael Dokes, went the distance with Holmes and Forman ..fighters from a whole decade ago....and got a standing 8 count from Bert Cooper.

I remember vividly that Holy was called a blown up cruiserweight, not a real HW. Given the chance a young fighter will prove Holy aint a legit HW.

Bowe be that man....but Holy didnt get exposed. He literally had to lose a fight to gain respect.

The rest of his career was a testimony of a great HW.
