Default How the heck can the birth of a baby cost 130,000 pounds?

UK couple stranded in New York after their baby arrived 11 weeks early face potential £130,000 medical bill - UK - News - The Independent

What a ridiculous story this one is. A woman gave birth to a premature baby in the US and she apparently has to come up with 130,000 pounds to pay for the medical care. What kind of system does that to people? Do people want to get cancer, have heart attacks, give birth to premature babies? Yet if you are not covered (ie. funding immoral, parasitic insurance firms) then you are liable to go bankrupt. Unlike, the immoral, parasitic banks, there are no bail outs for you and your right to live a dignified life. I'm appalled by this story and want to stab a financier in the leg with a fork.

Views (on the story, not the leg stabbing)?

They are clearly over charging her because they hope the country will pick up the bill. Robbers!

You can buy a bloody house with that kind of money. Where were they staying...a palace? It's over 13 grand a week! The American model is clearly quite insane. Watch out Britain, you know what's coming next......

The medical plan that covers me at work covers hundreds of people across the state of Montana. It is supported by an employer contribution of between four and five dollars for each and every hour those hundreds of people work. At any given point, we are told, it is one very premature baby away from bankruptcy because the cost for such a case can run over a million dollars.

How can it cost that much though? I don't understand why anybody would want a model different from the British NHS as it was before the treasonous bastards started to underfund and sell it off. It was the perfect system, free at the point of use to protect all in society. How can you profit from sickness? That is a sign of total moral degeneration. How can you potentially ruin poor people with cancer? Or a woman who gives birth 10 weeks prematurely? Are we so heartless that we don't think it is a societal duty to protect each other? We are all one step away from a serious illness that will stop us ever being able to make money for ourselves and our families? Then what? Tory sanctions? Homeless and unable to sleep under the bridge because of new 'anti homeless' spikes? Then I think about money being given away on wars and monarchy and you start to question whether the world is literally eating itself like some ginormous mutating cancer. What is going on? Progress? There is none. It is austerity and permanent regression. And then revolution!

I DONT KNOW WHAT IT WILL TAKE FOR LAZY AMERICANS TO HAVE AREVOLTUTION ABOUT THE RIGHT ISSUES. lOOKS LIKE THEY WILL HAVE A REVOLUTION ABOUT bullshit issues like hands up dont shoot, or black lives matter, etc....

    WHEREAS/........

@Gandalf they should be revolting about overtaxation, health care, corruption in government, the Fed Reserve criminals, unbridled financial crimes by hedge funds and mega-banks, etc.

Americans, if they never understand their asses from the elbows, will wind up revolting over Beyoncee's ass or Kim Kardashian's pussy-piercing.
