The chin only deteriorates with a still very sharp puncher as does the instinct-need to stand your ground when a guy walks through your own.
It is desperate, he's trying to get Floyds attention through the fans. A win over Cotto might get the fans excited about a Khan vs Floyd fight.
The three guys who have given Cotto bad nights (I'm not counting Margarito) are Trout, Floyd, and Manny which are all speedy boxers like Khan. I think the new Khan (the Khan we saw against Collazo and Alexander) will give Cotto fits. That's why I pick Khan if the fight happens.
Am I saying Khan is on the same level as Manny, Floyd, or Trout? No! I'm saying his speed and newfound focus will get him past Cotto.

Cotto would only need to land one left hook to Khan's chin to knock him out.

Cotto can also cut off the ring, has a good jab, and has great timing, which can negate Khan's speed.

Cotto has a good variety of punches and a much improved right hand compared to early on, he moves well and uses angles, he'd stop Khan and early at that, around the 4th or 5th, I haven't seen Khan do anything that would give the impression that he'd be able to beat anyone above 140 (that is worth mentioning) much less a guy who is solid at 154, shit a fight against Provodnikov at 147 would be a toss up for Khan, and he has nowhere near the skill or IQ that Cotto has in the ring

Collazo and Alexander are not worth a mention? Khan has looked better than ever at 147.

Alexander had already been beat up by Porter and Collazo had beaten Ortiz who's arguably finished, again neither guy was top 10 at 147, so what has he done to merit a shot against Cotto, Mayweather, or Pacquiao?

Khan has taken time to be good at welterweight. You would think he would need the same amount of time to adjust at light middle especially as he wants to face Cotto.

Khan is one KO loss away from irrelevance.

If he gets KO'd or stopped like he did against Prescott and Garcia again, it's over for him.

Khan should be focusing on fighting someone of relevance at welter, Khan vs Thurman sounds good, and I'd probably pick Thurman by mid rounds ko, people forget that Khan has been brutally KTFO not once but twice, his chin hasn't gotten any better as Diaz showed, and the guys up North of 147 just hit that much harder, delusional if they really think he'd be able to do anything above welter

He seems distractingly obsessed with Floyd and is one bad showing let alone a ko loss away from being an also ran and Mayweather deleting his number. Khan needs to worry about himself and be smart. Cotto is long in the tooth but he's also on a resurgence, mentally as well as physically, and is not a stepping stone for a chinny new welterweight. Trout was an established 154 and that was not a wash. Khan has all the speed for sure, he kept his head with Alexander and Collazo though Collazo resembled nothing close to himself and fought like a one punch slugger. Cottos own jab would shock Khan and get him stationary for some bad times.
