Nah, both of those fights were way to close to complain about the decisions imo, and the cards didn't suggest anything different.

Holmes apparently had an injury in the first fight, and it looked like he fought scared for large parts of it, he wasn't throwing the right enough to keep Spinks off of him. The rematch he started and finished strong and looked the champion, but the fact is he didn't fight much for the entire middle of the fight and probably let Spinks take a good 6-7 rounds easily, clearly a very close fight.

Also worth noting that Holmes easily could have lost the Witherspoon and Carl Williams fights not long before he met Spinks, it's not as if he couldn't get a break.

Initially I agree, but you kinda balanced it out. It was a close fight.

Holmes probably thought Spinks was an easy fight. I have not seen either fight and am told the 2nd was a robbery.

So Holmes was probably not screwed by politics and his comment on Marciano or him retiring but just him not getting the decision on a closely contested fight.

    They were good fights.

A case could be made that since they were close fights that the champion should have retained his title. But also true, Larry robbed Witherspoon similarly.

Larry did take Spinks as an easy victory. But "fighting scared" against a 200lb former light HW is ridiculous LOL

Larry did not rob Witherspoon, if anyone did it was the judges, big difference.
