He could have had that had he chosen to fight K9 when he was the IBF champ the 1st time around in 2012 but instead he went after a belt he just lost to Mayweather against a then undefeated southpaw. I have no doubt that Cotto would have busted up K9 and won another belt for leverage against whomever he wanted even an enticing rematch against Mayweather which could have made him a lot more money in a unification bout. I just do not understand him or his promoters and managers mind set.

Cotto has earned to fight who he wants and he should do so but he needs to drop the MW belt before so. If he's gonna keep the belt fight the best in the divison instead of tryina get 147 and 154 fighters to fight him. Shit fight.

I'll wait to see what happens here but if its Cornelius then its fair to say he really has no plans on fighting a middle. I'm seeing reports that Hbo is refusing this fight unless he signs to fight Alvarez next which would put him in a bit of a quandary if the Kazak executes his mandatory rights. The Wbc has said at least ten times that they will enforce it but I wonder if things will once again change with them if Alvarez is involved. I suppose Jay Z and Oscar could kick the Kaz 6 large with a guarantee by the WBC that he gets the winner.

i agree. cotto has fought the best throughout his career but im just not a fan of him holding onto the "legitimate" MW title and not actually looking to defend it. he won the title so now give it up if you have no desire to fight the top MWs (or even a MW for that matter).
