Yes it was harsh, but self hating? Ali has no hate for himself nor his people. Yet even more harmful were all those whites thats laughed when he put up that rubber guerilla and started punching it. They didn't have to laugh & egg him on. Same with James Toney- their personalities shine.

Ali was disrespectful to anyone who got in the ring with him, but he seemed to be worse with black fighters. Maybe he feared them more and tried harder to get under their skin. Maybe it just seemed that way because all the top fighters (nearly all) were black.
I could never understand it, it seemed as though he hated black men. Don't even try to tell me about selling fights, it went beyond that.

Do you honestly think Ali was funny when he called Frazier a gorilla, it sure wasn't humorous to Frazier. There was no purpose for it either, all three of their fights sold themselves. It was just Ali being the disrespectful, mean spirited prick that he was.
