I had no idea Marijuana had some many health benefits : theCHIVE
Sooooo it's bad because why again?
Yeah I think people should just concentrate on the fact that it's really not that harmful. I'm pretty skeptical about all supposed benefits of marijuana. I know it's great for pain and glaucoma, but I'm not ready to buy it as the cure for cancer/alzheimers/MS/seizures/ect that the pro-pot people claim it is. Going a little too far the other way IMO.![]()

Here's the deal marijuana isn't as harmful as advertised plain as that. Alcohol is MORE harmful than advertised. Tobacco can't really even be advertised but it's very dangerous for you.
Is marijuana a "panacea" will it cure everything? No and nobody is saying it is. General pain yeah it'll help. Insomnia? It'll help. Chronic pain from IBS, Crohn's, MS, fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis? It'll help.
Compare the side effects of pot to those of pharmaceuticals and what do you have? Pot MIGHT make you hungry, depending on the strain you could get talkative, you could get sleepy, and that's about it. Meanwhile with these pharmaceuticals you can have any number of side effects.
So it's better for you recreationally AND medicinally
I'm all for legalization, I don't think anyone should go to jail or face any legal repercussions for the personal use of any substances.
I'm not a big pot guy myself but I have friends who smoke every day, and I have to say... unfortunately, there are SO many retarded marijuana advocates that I think it really does hurt the cause, much like hardcore feminists keep people away from their cause. There are a TON of people out there claiming that marijuana is a magical cure for the world's worst diseases. Lots of pot people are claiming it stunts/kills tumors, even Tommy Chong is claiming that his cancer was cured by sticking marijuana oil up his ass.
Marijuana is a good time and it's a great substitute for pain pills. Why can't people just leave it at that?

Very good, that's the logical rational stance.
Yes there are TONS of idiots who use marijuana and there are tons of people who "abuse" it as much as that's possible. The news media, the political pundits, they seek out those special people in order to feel more right about their points. Imagine if you will, Prohibition in the 1930's, and getting hardcore drunks and people who use alcohol to self medicate mental disorders and such lobbying for the ability to use alcohol freely and openly? The Teetotalers would have LOVED that and probably attempted to utilize that very strategy against the repeal of that law.
Sure Tommy Chong is saying hemp oil has helped him deal with cancer, he doesn't say it "cured" him, but he does say it helped and it slowed the growth/shrank the size of tumors but the deal with that is there are no real studies on this subject right now. Hopefully Colorado, California, Washington, etc will be able to actually do some studies on it and see if this works and if it does then all the better for us.
Pain pills yes, but it also helps other disorders. The effects of marijuana compared to alcohol, it's no match, marijuana is so much safer.
Yeah but he is saying it stopped the progression of the tumors, thus then "saving" him from his cancer, which is highly irresponsible. I've seen my pro-pot friends post equally retarded stories on Facebook every other week, like a father saving his young son from cancer by giving him marijuana. It's dangerous because then you get people buying into it and foregoing medical treatment in favour of "alternative" treatment, and we saw how well that worked for Steve Jobs.
Other than those people, fuck yeah, I'm all aboard. Legalize marijuana and decriminalize all narcotics, go after the dealers and the cartels leave the addicts alone.

All that being said though, I'm a huge believer in Hemp Oil, which I drink in a fruit smoothie every morning![]()

This was an interesting doc I saw the other day, it links smoking marijuana at a young age while your brain is still developing to a large increased risk of schizophrenia.

Yes BUT if that were the case then in Colorado and Washington we'd see an increase in schizophrenia because of the legalization. We don't see that. Psychological diseases are typically hereditary AND who is to say that people who are pre-schizo don't seek out drugs because they are pre-schizo.
It's too soon to say that though, I don't think they're saying that you're going to smoke a joint and wake up with schizophrenia the next day, I think the idea is that it may set your brain in course years down the road or "awaken" a pre-existing schizophrenia that may be lying dormant. This really wouldn't be a surprising find, it's been scientifically proven that underage drinking and smoking also have negative effects on the development of the brain.
I don't even think it's a relevant argument not to legalize: the study says it may effect underage smokers, particularly those under 16. Colorado doesn't sell to those under 21, which is the way it should be everywhere, just like the sale of alcohol. Once you hit 21 (or 18 here), you should have the right to decide what you put into your body.

Schizophrenia typically manifests itself around the time of mid to late teens to early to mid 20's. And it COULD onset from any number of things that kids those ages do or it could just onset just because of the developmental stage of the brain at that time.
Like you said there's not a valid reason to keep it illegal. It isn't the fountain of youth, it isn't a cure all, but the good effects outweigh the bad effects in my opinion especially when compared to alcohol and medicine big pharma has produced.
This idiot is set to resign
Oh my god what a cunt...
