Stopping the loop holes in tax avoidance for multi nationals would go a long way to fund schools, hospitals and vulnerable.
Non Dom status gone.
Banks and stock traders need to face imprisonment for destaibilsing the economy.
Parts of the NHS needs to be outsourced to voluntary organisations as a monopoly is not a good thing.
Teachers should be responsible to teach kids and not chase targets.
Police need to merge as there are too many divisions.
Renationalise the services into non profit making organisations who will bid for the work and focus on quality not only profit.

I agree with each of the points made by Greenbeanz. Austerity is ideological otherwise how do you account for the national debt doubling while poor people with little are left with nothing but food banks? It is evil and it really is time for revolution. I don't mean that in a selfish bloody way, I just want people to collectivise and look out for one another. All it takes is for HSBC to be blacklisted and some bankers to be thrown in jail. There is PLENTY of money out there, it is just being printed for a select few and the government is helping them hide it away. Bankers are just a parasitic class and this is a bastardisation of capitalism. It is time for change. The richest Brits have doubled their wealth since 2008. Doubled! Did they actually do anything to deserve that? Meanwhile nurses are being cut or else denied any increases in wages. This isn't capitalism. It is a disease.
Reminds me of the ol' times when me and Kirk use to debate these things here. This issue of left and right has been muddled just a bit too long by the old cold war rhetoric. Darn, both sides have been stubbornly sticking to their extreme positions but believe me, when all the dust of the cold war has settled down, people will debate this issue in a more objective manner and they will find the right balance where everyone gets what is best for them. That's how it is and how it will be and nobody can stop that. But by the way it's going now, it'll probably take another thousand years or so...
...make it another hundred years...
Once in awhile, get outside in fresh air, take a deep breath & with a deep sigh, let out all the things that's bottled up inside you & be free, & you'll get a glimpse of nirvana.
That is a lot of British specific stuff right there.
America spends PLENTY on schools per student....yet we lack the results of other nations that are spending less...WHY?
Too much CapitalismOne look at Academia and you'll find that FAR from the case.
Your "Parts of NHS need to be outsourced" and "Renationalize the services" are kind of ideas that are at odds with each other aren't they? NHS needs the private sector for a little help and you're good with that but services need to be run by the state 100%....will that make things better or worse? You could get what you pay for if you don't watch out.
Outsourced to nonprofit making organisations like the voluntary sector in the example of the NHS.
