Bottom line, if he doesn't fight and beat Ward, he'll retire as never having been "the man" in his division.
Joe Calzaghe, Ricky Hatton, Prince Naseem... all dominated their weight divisions for a time.

The fact that he isn't chomping at the bit to get at Ward says he knows that he's not going to beat him, and that's a punk move.

@Beanflicker - i happen to disagree with you about this. Ward is arguably better than anyone Calzaghe, Hatton, or Naseem, had to face when they were in their prime in their divisions. Also, Froch already lost to him by a pretty wide decision. Maybe you disagree, but I don't think that fight was close. And he lost to Kessler in their first fight so he would have to beat Kessler in a third fight to legitimately claim to be the better man between the two of them. Froch has to settle for being the second or third best super middleweight of his day. It is what it is. However, a win over GGG wouldn't be a bad note to end his career on.
And for Ward, I'd prefer to see him move up a division after he has dominated super middleweight. Ward is fighting closer to the light heavyweight division than the super middleweight division in his next fight. A bigger fight than Froch for Ward is Kovalev. Ward already beat Froch - why does he need to do it again? The only fight at super middleweight that I'd like to see Ward take is DeGale.

I agree Rant, there is really nothing unfinished between them. Froch is the bigger draw, but that isn't going change if Ward beats him again is it? Ward is in the dark because of is own inactivity/promotional dispute, whoever's fault it was. He has made pretty good money for his last few fights, it's not as if the guy is blackballed or something, and he might do well with is new deal.
I agree 100% about the initial fight: I think Ward dominated and embarrassed Froch for the most part.
But great fighters are not supposed to quit. Great fighters fear no man, and losses eat away at great fighters.
When Schmelling KO'd Louis, Louis wanted to return the favour. When Ingmar knocked out Patterson, Floyd got back in there and returned the favour twice. When Ali got whipped by Frazier and Norton, he wanted to get back in there. Same thing when Leonard got whipped by Duran, ect ect ect.
Great fighters don't think "oh that guy was way better than me", they think "he was better that night, I'll make the adjustments and I'll beat his ass next time." They don't run from challenges: great fighters want to be the best, and they want to beat the guy who people consider to be the best.
Andre Ward is the best, and he already embarrassed Froch in the ring. If Carl doesn't have the itch to even the score and be the best, if he's content with being 2nd best to a guy, then he doesn't deserve to be mentioned with the best British fighters of all time. It's a punk move. I don't see how anyone could disagree.

Froch is a massive draw compared to Ward and Ward would love a big PPV event at Wembley but Froch wants nothing to do with Ward so it won't happen. Froch has also now bottled GGG according to his promoter. If Froch fights again it'll be De Gale.

This is the next big fight outside of Mayweather/Pac in my estimation. The reason why it has not taken steam is because we were swept up in Manny/May hysteria.
This is the opportune time to goad both of them into a big fight such as this. This can happen early next year if they want it. This can happen. Froch just needs to nut it up and Ward needs to decide if he wants to fight in England or not.
The solid money is on Ward, but you can't ever count Froch out. Especially since he has won every rematch he ever had.

If the fight doesn't come off Froch walks off into the sunset with plenty of dough in the bank and great career behind him.
Ward, whether the fight happens or not continues to be a guy that gets respect for his art but on the whole no one gives a shit about.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

I disagree on the Ward angle. With his talent, skills and being on the media by being a commentator, he has more upside in this second half of his career. All Ward has is GREAT options.
1. GGG if GGG wants it
2. Chavez Jr if Ward wants to move up and Chavez wants to get in shape
3. Andy Lee
4. Quillen if Quillen decides to cash out and retire
5. Chilemba if Ward wants to move up
6. Ramirez (good choice)
8. Bute if Bute can get his nuts back
9. DeGale
10. Groves
Ward has all of the playing field to review and make the right choices. He is back in the driving seat.
