    Uh... wrong thread.

This isn't another thread about how good is or isn't Wlad.
This is a thread of which and how many fighters didn't try hard enough against Wlad.

The answer is, and continues to be: A LOT.

However you rank Wlad among heavyweights, there is no escaping the fact that many..... MANY of Wlad's opponents completely underwhelmed on fight night. That has been my pet peeve since Day One. Read back through the fighters named on here, and you'll see what I mean. You mention Tyson losing to Douglas..... well Douglas came to fight. He put on the performance of his entire career. He wasn't scared of Tyson. See the difference?

Yeah but that seems like quite the coincidence, doesn't it? Guys look great, they're knocking everyone out, then they fight Wlad and they look like shit. I don't these guys are not doing it out of the kindness of their heart, that they are all huge Wlad fans and couldn't bare to see him lose.

That's what a master boxer does, he's the ring general and he controls and tames his opponent. It's the same thing Lennox did, it's what Floyd does, and you get guys looking underwhelming against them because they're controlled. Lennox turned an absolute murderer in David Tua into a teddy bear in their fight. Floyd limited Pac to less punches thrown than Floyd threw. It's not an accident. These guys control range and angles so well it makes guys have to work extra hard to get into punching position and have to sell themselves out so they run the risk of running into a counter.

It's easier said than done to throw on a guy like Wlad who has one-punch power in both hands, is constantly in position to dart away from the punch and is constantly jabbing to keep you off balance. It's the mark of a great fighter to do what Wlad does.

You're giving Wlad's opponents waaaay too much credit, IMO. Did you see the Ray Austin fight? Tell me at what point Austin appeared to throw a punch in anger at Wlad. How about Sultan? Twelve miserable rounds of incessant pawing at an opponent (Wlad) who, curiously, was just as scared of getting tagged with Sultan's vaunted left hand. Haye? As was said earlier, if Haye didn't break Guinness records in trash talking before the fight..... he came pretty damn close. And what did he do in the fight? Diddly squat..... and then proceeded to blame his big toe.

The only one I'll give you is Povetkin. The guy put in an honest effort, and tried to win. What nobody foresaw, however, were Wlad's ridiculous mauling, grappling and fouling tactics. Whatever it takes to win.

The Pianetas and Leapais of the world probably wanted to win, too. But they were so ridiculously outgunned (and never should've been there in the first place).... it's difficult to give Wlad credit on those as well.

No. Wlad's collective opponents get no break in my book. I may have to grudgingly give Wlad credit for dominating the division for the last forever years. But I'm not about to let the collective heap of garbage that has paraded in front of Wlad off the hook.

How is this any different then Tyson opponents being scared of him before the walked into the ring. Then have Louis fighting fucking bar tenders this is not something new really dude. I mean got a guy with knock out power, reach, knows all the tricks and is a athletic freak. I do not think his opponents are that great but out of all the fights Wald has had he had a few were got iced. Since then he kinda got his style down to make everyone to look like shit because it is hard to deal with a great boxer who has power and size over them. I mean say he were a heavyweight what would you do to get Wald out there with out the fear of getting iced the or be stopped in your tracks by his jab it would be huge wake up call in the fight knowing that you are out of your league when you get hit it throws a person off pretty much.

Tyson fought Razor Ruddock (twice), Golota, lost to Douglas, Holyfield (twice), Lewis. Ruddock was a feared puncher, and they staged classic fights. Golota was a bit dumb, on account he couldn't help getting DQ'ed against Bowe. But none of these guys went in there scared. Now go back and watch Wlad-Austin, Wlad-Sultan, Wlad-Haye. Compared to the Tyson fights, they were shit. All those bums went in looking for a place to land.

Wlad fights fall into one of three categories:

    1. Opponent goes in like sacrificial lamb. Wlad decides the guy poses no danger. Quick knockout. Shit fight.

    2. Opponent turns in a fair effort, but is a bum to begin with (Pianeta, Leapai). Wlad knows this... keeps them at bay with jab. Knocks them out.

    3. Opponent is an actual danger to Wlad. Wlad knows this. Wlad grapples, holds, clinches, and mauls. Opponent is frustrated, gets wild, makes himself open... Wlad scores enough to win.

    End of.

Wlad's opponents have turned in abysmal efforts... end of story.
When did anyone ever complain about Tyson fights being shit?
    "Never" is the correct answer.
Yeah, Tyson had his share of scared opponents... but he also had the Ruddocks and the Tony Tuckers and the Golotas.
When Tyson was reigning over the division, the division was popular.
Where is the division's popularity now?
In the shitter..... is the correct answer.

So in summary.... whether you rate Wlad high or low in the alltime HW list.... his opponents have the worst in HW history... hands down.

Seems like a mighty big coincidence that all these guys freely decided to not put in a big effort in the biggest fight of their lives, doesn't it?

Intimidation Bean....... intimidation. It does funny things to a man. I've given you some hard examples. Austin. He had the physical tools. His effort, though, was shameful. Sultan all he did for 12 rounds was meekly paw his jab and stay away. Wlad didn't force any action, either. Haye talked a bunch of sh*t.... but didn't back it up.

Wlad fans take this as an affront against Wlad. It isn't (well... except for his dirty fight vs Povetkin). It's a condemnation of his opponents. Every other HW champion in recent memory had their memorable fights. Tell me how many memorable battles Wlad has had. Then people claim Wlad isn't liked in the States 'cause he isn't American. Hogwash! I think that's a convenient excuse, to hide the real fact that Wlad isn't popular in the States because his fights are as dull as dishwater.

Wlad himself hasn't done himself any favors. He obviously enjoys his inmense popularity in Europe, and has done f*ck all to try and win over Stateside fans. That's obviously his choice... but then again it's the right of us fans not to like him for it. If he was a true ATG in his division, he'd make more of an effort to fight in the U.S. more often... and engage like the Tysons, the Lewises, and the Foremans used to do.

Well to be fair there really not the need for Wald really to do much guys been champ for 10 years and beaten everyone. Sure i guess he could fight with more gusto but he is making 10 mill a fight sometimes more and he fucking worshiped over seas does not really need us as much. Lewis was not really liked that much either till he hung up his gloves really. Tyson and Holyfeild were very popular but at the same time they were american fighters. You do not have to be american to be loved but having a champ who grow up in ussr i not sure it helps if was american people would like him more by how much who knows. The problem really is if he can be love by Europe and Russia not to mention making a shit ton of money fighting his way it is really hard to argue with what he wants to do its a no brainer really if you think about it.

Intimidation? You really think so many pro fighters are scared to death of Wlad that they go in there and don't put up an effort?

Or is it more plausible that he uses his jab, reach, movement and constant threat of a counter to discourage guys from throwing?

It's one thing to punch a heavybag with arms like Arreola, it's another to mount offence against a guy who is constantly darting back when you make any forward movement, is constantly cocked to throw a counter straight right or left hook from his hip, is smashing you in the face with the hardest jab in boxing, and has a height and reach advantage and is a master at controlling that safe distance.
