Absolutely, even a basic designated retirement fund. Then again we're talking about some promoters and commissions who cannot even ensure proper event safety. I remember Gerry Cooney trying to initiate some after career health and job training program of some sort yrs ago but in an individual sport it has to be daunting as we know how tribal and arse backwards the sport is in the first place. Any reform has to begin at the top. We need a top.

Doesnt that exists already? Am sure I heard talk of this over a decade ago. Perhaps it was just talk.

As far as I know there is next to nothing on a big scale. Cooney formed FIST after retirement and held numerous fund raisers but have no idea the current status as any link I see runs dry or cannot be found. The California state commission has collected a small percentage from promoters on gross revenue and tv tax since 1982 for area fighters. They must have fought a minimum of 10 rounds a year for 4 years or more with no more than a 3 year "break" in between and be 50 years of age to be eligible to collect any funds. I think they are the only State with anything like this?

Harvey Munford from Nevada has pushed bills in 2011, 2013 and earlier this year that would double ticket fees charged by the Commission and require half of proceeds to go to medical expenses and treatment of resulting injuries but have no idea where they stand or if they've been picked up.

Clearly IMO the fighters need more leverage and an association that will represent them like other major sports

Its a little top heavy with Floyd and Manny to a lesser extent. He probably only makes 40 mil a fight....

This is a different sport almost when Floyd is involved for reasons that really cant be justified and yet it continues. Rigo and Ward dismantle and fight in a similar safety first fashion as Floyd and they cant draw flies to a shit parade. Hbo does not want Rigo and Ward on their cards and yet paid Floyd hundreds of millions to do the same thing prior to the split.

Separate from those primo's, the rest of the grinders and real blood and guts guys get squat. There is still no real financial planning for these guys and they get spit out. In a way the system creates the primadonnas.

My issues concerning Floyds pay is on moral grounds which is an uneasy position. Considering the state of the people on this planet and 40 million homeless in his own country, giving a guy 250 million or whatever for 36 minutes is beyond description for Dickens. Ftr I remember saying the same thing in Tysons day when he was making 40 million for 60 seconds. There is simply something wrong with that on a fundamental level for me even though I love the sport.
