It is a risky sport for sure, I suffered my first ever concussion from boxing a couple of weeks back. I was stupid though and was sparring countless amounts of rounds for 4 days straight against pros and high end semi pro fighters and it all caught up with me by the end of it, I wasn't ever put down it was just taking a lot of big punches, and that was with headguard and 16oz gloves. I am not doing as much sparring for sure now because it was a kick up the ass I needed. Its horrible when you hear about stuff like this too. And what happened a couple of weeks back is a reminder on a personal level of how tough this sport is and competing a lot.
This is why im not fighting now until early December, need a bit of time off from fighting all of the time. The fight in Malta though was one I cant refuse and in the mean time im working on tightening up my defense and have really good fitness for the fight. I have sparred since this happened and I am fine, just was a bit of a horrible, mainly for family members seeing me damaged like that. I was accused of being on drugs I was that out of it, but the doctors cleared that up that I wasn't and it was concussion for sure.
