It's either do that or be stripped for failing to defend in year right? Ward is living off of distant memories and frankly Kovalev doesn't need him.

The nauseating part for me is that ward will move up, fight 1 fight against a no hoper that was never heard of (will they even be ranked?) and then maybe again (probably not Stevenson, I could only hope beterbiev) before leapfrogging all other light heavyweights and challenging Kovalev for all the belts. Proving again, nothings stops ward from fighting but ward. He'll move his @$$ for a golden opportunity with nothing to lose and everything to gain, otherwise... hes got better things to do....
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Ward is trying to get paid a lot of money to fight poor opponents. Andre is not good enough to negicociate a deal like that. Ward should bit the bullet and fought the best in the world. He is good enough to beat them but not got the confidence to try again.

Ward seems to be taking the Russian too lightly and he has been active and built a rock hard resume at Light heavyweight. Kovelov has improved as a boxer at the same time while Ward paced his lawyer's office. His proposed opponent is tough and merciless and Stevenson has bruised Kovelov with the ten foot pole used to keep him away. Maybe Ward better get one too.

Some great points there. Its like the guy was waiting on Floyd to retire or something. He also took the reversal of the risk/reward ideal to a new level. Was unable to play bridesmaid after busting out of that shabbily run tournament. He probably expected to be neck and neck with Floyd in the PPV sweepstakes. I mean "SOG"....really? I'm sure his default response when asked about it is some practiced reference to Christ. I was half expecting him to carry a cross at some point during his self imposed exile dressed up as a bogus legal claim.

Thing is he probably was good enough to get his contract renegotiated but he had to fight first. Not sure how that escaped him.

He overplayed his hand and knackered himself. I bet the doors of his house were custom made for him to fit his head through. Now of course he will repeat that behaviour and expect different results.
The fight with Sullivan Barrera is supposed to be all but done and if I was a gambler and had the disposable income I'd throw a few bucks on Barrera. Abel Sanchez will have that Cuban ready. Even money that the fight falls apart though and Wards crew will come up with some reason.

My biggest problem with Ward is he took a seat and has done next to nothing in four years. You can only reheat leftovers so long and then patrons want to watch you cut an onion. Ok. That was stupid, just went full Teddy. Never go full Teddy! But respects for going with Barrera and stepping it up. If he thinks this is another robotic lead foot Rodriquez he'll be in for a surprise.

It's definitely a decent test at 175 for him. If he wins in his usual horrible to watch way and being in with a bigger guy doesn't trouble him he is unfortunately going to do well against Kovalev. I'd love to see him get sparked though.
