Boxing is going too soft.
Lots of pussified stoppages these days. In The Ring there is a great section of articles entitled "What If.."
Makes you think about Taylor vs. Pavlik I and what might have been if Smoger (Greatest Ref Ever) had stopped it early, that's a disturbing reminder of certain potentialities. Or how about Pac-Man Vs Marquez 1 ? Pac Man knocked Marquez down three times in the first round. Yet Marquez came back to get a draw. Imagine if Joe Cortez would have stopped it on the 3rd knockdown ? There would have been no more Pac-Marquez fights because no-one would have complained.
I don't give a F**K if Qullins legs were doing the Whip - Nae Nae, he should not have been stopped the fight. It's not like it was the 10th round of a gruelling fight.
This stoppage was up there with the Lewis v.s. McCall 1 stoppage, it wasn't quite on the Calzaghe/Manfredo level but it was up there. The ref didn't even give Qullin time to gain his facilities. He just waived it off.
The referees are given too much authority over ending fights that it becomes ridiculous sometimes. I recognize the fact that they have the best interest of the fighter inside the ring but they have to give the boxers the benefit of the doubt.
It has gotten to the point were I don't think I'll ever see a ref do a ten count again. They just wave it off without even counting.
