I can see where people feel the stoppage was premature. That being said, I thought it was a fair stoppage. The fact that Peter didn't protest much and didn't seem eager for rematch tells me he was buzzed significantly.

Read a post earlier discussing GGG vs Jacobs. I like Jacob and Quillen but GGG destroys both of those guys. Guess each have a punchers chance and some athleticism but I see GGG stopping both early.

I agree, Quillin did not seem eager for a rematch.

As far as I'm concerned, Quillin is finished as a top Boxer.

No problem with the stoppage. If the fighter getting stopped thinks it's OK then it's absolutely ridiculous for fans to argue it's not (by the way, there is no standing 8 count in title fights).

After staggering across the ring from the final temple shot, Quillin was bopping on the spot like a drunk grandad at a wedding. He didn't even react to the ref grabbing him.

Yea. I was just saying that he was pretty much done. To me, he was out of it from when he ducked Korobov to fight Lee. That didn't work out well for him at all. And now, Jacobs was calling him out for a hot minute or two....and now we see why?! Jacobs had a feeling he had a chalk on Quillin, and so he did.

To be fair, I would have let Quillin continue for about another ten seconds. But, as the rules state, if the ref has any reason to administer any time outside of a foul, when the standing 8 count is not in effect, then the fight has to be stopped.

Watching a replay now, expecting to see a controversial stoppage! A little early, but not controversial. In my opinion, of course!

I hate first round knockouts in fights like this because it could have been a fluke by Quillin getting caught cold. Maybe if that wouldn't have happened in the first round, Quillin would have easily won. I'm not saying he would have necessarily, but maybe. First round knockouts at this level are usually flukes more than one fighter being really good.

I would like to see a rematch but if Quillin doesn't want one then whatever. I think Jacobs needs one more big fight like against the lee-saunders winner and if he wins, I fight with GGG would be big. As of now though, Jacobs would still be a massive under dog.

I don't see the problem. Quillin took like 20 unanswered punches. He didn't want any more.

Although it was hugely disappointing to watch the fight end in the first round, it's hard to criticize the ref for the stoppage. Ironically, had Quillin been knocked down, he would've gotten a few more seconds to clear his head..... then the right thing to do would've been for the ref to count until he got up, and then make a judgment on Quillin's condition to continue fighting. The usual is for the ref to ask the fighter to put his gloves up and walk to him.

Classy display by both fighters after the fight. I didn't realize they knew each other from way back. Type of fight where a rematch would make sense.

No problem with stoppage either. Quillin got caught early by a big punch. Happens. It makes you wonder whether it has anything to do with his weight. He seems huge for a middleweight.

Quillen was slightly over sold. He is a good fighter.. Andy Lee and now jacobs proved Quillen is limited. They didn't expose him rather they showed Quillen isn't a potential great.

Quillin was in trouble right from the beginning, that temple shot sent him into another world. The ref saved him from further punishment and it would've been severe, he should've taken a knee, but it was quite obvious he didn't know where his knees were at that time. He didn't complain about the stoppage and was extremely gracious in defeat, both men showed great sportsmanship. I think Quillin is done, he wasn't that forthcoming when a rematch was discussed?

That was a perfect stoppage by Harvey Dock. Quillin would have got splattered if he'd let it continue. Nice job by Jacobs but he'll be lucky to see round seven against Golovkin. Not sure that fight happens even though they both currently rent one of the twenty seven available WBA middleweight belts. Haymon will want him headlining cards and filling that Barclays Centre rather than purse bids against HBO and having to pay Golovkin a fortune to watch him batter the house fighter. I'm sure he can work something out with the WBA.

Jacobs was quicker, more aggressive, and apparently more accurate and hit very hard. Quillin would have been brain dead by another minute or two.
