How long will Deontay Wilder avoid the top heavyweights?

Will Deontay Wilder ever fight someone like Ortiz, Fury, Povetkin, or Joshua?

Or will he continue to take "safe" fights, choosing journeyman opponents like Molina and DuHaupas, or fringe contenders like Szpilka who are not in the top ten?

Wilder is age 30 now.

First off, Joshua is NOT a top heavyweight. He is a top prospect. Joshua is no better or worse than the Parker's, Tepper's, Mansour's and Martin's of this world. In fact, to me, he has trouble with Parker, gets chinned by Tepper and Mansour, and will have a dog fight with Martin to the bitter end. Shoots, put him in with Derek Bryant.... that oughta be nice. Or even a Gerald Washington. These guys in no way, shape or form are any challenge to the Ortiz's, Wlad's, Fury's and Povetkin's of this world.

With that being said, most likely Wilder takes the winner of the Glazkov/Martin IBF title fight. Not exactly top flight guys, but both would certainly be better than the guys he has faced in his title run.

Says the man who was adamant Quillin was better then Golovkin.

Beating Whyte puts AJ above prospect level. US heavies are very poor. I doubt any bar Wilder would beat Whyte.

I was being tongue in cheek with Quillin. In fact, when he ducked Korobov, I said he was Shiite for it. But, Joshua is no top contender yet and Whyte is just another Brit hype-job, fluffed up to make Joshua seem higher than where he really is.

Not saying Joshua can't be there, but he is not a world beater yet. Shit, I feel Povetkin, Pulev, Ortiz, and even a Jennings beats him up really bad. The kinda beat down that makes you wonder why his promoter set him up the way David Price got set up when he faced Thompson.

Ask yourself: Who did Dillian Whyte fight before Joshua? NO ONE! So why was this a "big" fight? Because of some old, grainy amateur fight video with Joshua getting knocked on his ass in some back-room - looked smoky- British pub that passed for an amateur fight venue for the time. That and Whyte seemingly likes to talk Shiite, which made for as entertaining a promo as Fury gives.

Who has Wilder beat? Stiverne? Who has he beat? Arreola? Sure theyre shit so what makes Wilder any use? Surely its by judging how he performed in his fights. It doesnt take a genius to see Joshua will likely be top class. Just like it didnt take a genius to see Golovkin is class. Joshua might lose to Fury, Wilder or even Haye, but hes a strong fav over every fighter that isnt at world level.

I'm not saying Wilder is the man for getting soft fights either. But he had a lot more going for him at the time than Joshua did. In fact, Stiverne was made credible after beating stiff journeymen... look at Stiverne's record.

Now, as said and I will say again, Joshua CAN get there. But he is not there yet.

Exactly. Look at his record. Its garbage. KO Loss to Demetrice King, Majority Draw with Charles Davis. Hes a decent fighter but hes nothing special. Sure he struggled big time with Derric Rossy a guy that Joshua or Whyte would blast out. Judging by Stivernes last performance youd fancy Whyte to beat him.

Even at this stage there's not much between Wilder/Joshua on paper.

Wilder can chin out anyone if he catches you right but nobody can seriously watch him and think he is more skilled than AJ. Wilder's only chance would be to bang him out before he gets banged out. Unlikely.
