As I said before, there is absolutely no reason why Canelo should fight at a catch weight. He can't make 154 anymore and hasn't been able to for a little bit so his only option is 160. If he really is preparing to fight GGG, then hopefully he doesn't ask for a catch weight for his next fight.
It’s more than that. It’s like a Collective. You have the boxing organization ordering a fight with the Real champ after the Cotto/Alvarez is concluded. In fact the fight was made with that pretext. After the fight the winner claims he's got his own weight class. Next the same Org says they will allow an optional and the fighters team now spin it as prep for the fight that should have happened already with the Real champ. They are choosing to prep for this hypothetical showdown by fighting one of two men the real deal annihilated.
How much evidence to people need? They have no intention on fighting this guy.
You are correct it is not so much sticking in your teeth as repeatedly finding it there and being told it's fresh. Ironically I think it actually has the potential to add to Golovkins legacy so avoided has he become. Those still asking of GGG "Who has he fought?" are beginning to sound like miners claiming that the sky is just a rumour or a subway busker who thinks he is louder than the road or train above him.
I like Saunders and I think he is entitled to an easier defense of his title then Golovkin next but then he should really grasp the nettle and step up. It's not going to get any easier anytime soon and his speed may keep him in roughly one piece until the later rounds.
Canelo is taking the Michael as did Miguel before him in putting Daddies suit and tie on and thinking that makes him the MD. Fancy dress and nothing more.
As far as boxing skill goes Saunders is right up there with anyone GGG has fought before if not better than all of them. The worrying factor for me is his lack of power. For me he'd need to really make GGG wary of moving in to beat him and I seriously doubt he has the power to deter him in that way. It's certainly not a fight I'm opposed to though and as far as Saunders having an easier first defence? why? Champions should always fight the next best out there and if Saunders really thinks of himself as the champion then GGG is the man he needs to beat next.
