He fought Cerefino Garcia for the middleweight title and was robbed on a highly disputed draw. Hard for me to take you seriously if you are calling guys like Garcia, Ray Robinson, and Benny Leonard "bums".
Those guy weren't bums but look at his other opponents. Utter garbage many of them!
There has never been 1 great fighter that never fought a garbage fighter in their career it all part of the learning whilst earning.
Armstrong didn't fight "a garbage fighter", he fought maaany. Look at his record:

    99th pro fight - Tommy Brown 1-1-0
    96th pro fight - Johnny Jones 0-2-0
    56th pro fight - Dommy Ganzon 4-0-1
38th pro fight - Perfecto Lopez - 16-12-7 (infact, they fought 6 times and Lopez never won once!!!!!)

Do I need to continue? It's a beautiful career full of accomplishments and also full of garbage fights against garbage fighters.

In those days you had to fight often to get paid, 99 fights tells you he fought a lot. Different time different boxing conditions. Still held 3 titles at the same time.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
