Remember the hype Lacy had destroyed a over the hill Robin Reid, ! what he was going to do to Joe
all bark no bite Lacy turned out to be! he took over a thousand punches that did him some damage
also Calzaghe beat him with a damaged hand in that fight.![]()

Big H throwing up Northside, those were the days... he made the current divs on here look like geniuses.

Calzaghe done okay for a guy that was advised never to box by a top surgeon, very bad hands often
he was fighting injured, yes most fighter fight injured but hand trouble must be difficult to over come
and extremely pain full.

I remember telling anyone on here, that Lacy was a level and a bit better than Joe...![]()

The anti-Calzaghe/pro-Lacy furore was so rampant on here, by the time the first bell rung, I was half-expecting Calzaghe to get ironed in the 1st round.
Back then I didn't realise 90% of boxing fans are complete and utter muppets (not for picking the wrong man, but for not even knowing about the fighters they rubbish).

What an absolutely fantastic night that was!
I remember four of us went up, and the Friday night we was absolutely steaming, running around Manc drinking at anywhere that would let us in. Got to the MEN on the Saturday, cheap tickets up in the gods, and one of the lighting gantries was hanging at an angle and obstructing the view. Naturally kicked off that we weren't going to miss the fight because of that, and they moved us downstairs to the section of seats that was just outside the ringside ones (there were quite a few empty seats around us, so not sure if it was a sell out?). Spotted Gordon Ramsey and a couple of other celebs knocking around.
The fight itself was stunning, I'd bought into the Lacy hype as well, and thought it was going to be a really tough fight too. When the guys were chanting "easy easy" in the second or the third, I thought the pendulum was going to swing back...but it never did! Awesome night, probably my favorite throughout Joe's career. Ten years goes by too fast!

Joe bashed him up good and proper but he was genuinely shit scared of him. I remember Frank Warren completely losing it with me/saddo's on a conference call for a fight I cant remember because someone here posted that Joe was pulling the bad hands routine to try and get out of the fight. He went spastic saying it was bollocks but Frank has since said himself it was legit and that Joe had to have him arm seriously twisted to go through with it.
Cracking performance. I remember Mad Dog saying at the time having never watched Calzaghe. It's like he's got six arms. I thought that was pretty apt.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

Oh man what a ass kicking that was i thought they just brought out a drunk guy to fight him out of the crowd it was bad. I wish he would of fought Froch it would not have look that bad but froch getttin his ass kciked by Calzaghe while not landing a punch be funny dude.
I was on the ESPN forum at that time, and I was one of the idiots that overrated Lacy and fell for the hype. Joe boxed circles around Lacy and definitely took his heart/confidence from him that night. Kessler was Joe's most impressive win, however. That was a very good fight and I was surprised and impressed to see Joe go to that next level that Kessler couldn't match.
