Prince was the single greatest artist, producer, musician, performer and entertainer from the 1980's on.
His level of skill, passion, creativity, output, and influence are unmatched by any of his contemporaries.
You can say you didn't listen to him much, but if you've listened to pop, funk, r&b, rock, edm and any of their sub genres, then you've heard a lot of Prince's sound.

Nah, the stones, yes, Floyd, McCartney and others were active at the same time. Prince was good but couldn't hold a candle to them dudes.

I don't know. The 80's weren't the best of years. Even some of the better bands had bad sounding production and McCartney only had one really consistent album for me (Flowers in the dirt). The Rolling Stones didn't really exist after Sticky Fingers.

Never really listened to Prince, but will look into his work. Seems to have been a familiar tale of a poor childhood, social anxiety and a need to overcompensate because of a lack of self worth. A curious mixture of excess ego and low self esteem.
