With a pretty deep gash over his eye...Carl gave a memorable/class on the jab---post fight interview.

He said "I had the quicker jab, but Larry had the more experienced jab."

Referring to the fact he used the Jab to score. Larry was shooting past the eye, slashing his skin which created the gash.

Only other time I saw that kind of jab...with intent to slash Lewis vs Klitschko.
With that said....Holmes workmanlike rate and experience carries him to victory or Fury.

I agree but boxers like Witherspoon and awkward fighters like Snipes/Slinks gave Holmes famous jab problems.

Fury would give him fits with his movement and jab.

If an opponent is moving so much you cant set a jab up it takes your jab away.

Ok he was older but Spinks beat him and so did Tyson and both moved their heads but he went on after this and had success and did better at an even more advanced edge against Mercer, McCall and Holyfield.

Ross stick to making fish-fingers mate, Holmes was a very good HW Champion and in his prime would have beat Fury to be honest Tyson would not be fit to carry Holmes jock strap mate.
Larry was a fine Champion and he was very much unappreciated by the public and media, why because he beat up Ali.
Tyson will never be the same level as Larry Holmes, if you think so you are living in lala land.

What about Wladimir Klitschko? More defences and more titles, actually unfified titles unlike Holmes eho only ever held one of the titles. Would Klitschko be fit to carry Holmes Jock strap? Would Holmes be fit to carry Klitschkos?

Would Fury beat them both? Probably

At 6'3 and 220-225 pounds no doubt hed struggle big time with Tyson Fury. Most people who dont rate Fury dont appreciate how hard it is to beat someone so much bigger than you

Larry would not underestimate Fury, his jab with that educated thumb into Tyson eye.
Yes Tyson is big guy so was Jerry but Holmes would chop him down 😉

Fury is 4" taller than Cooney!

For a size comparison, Steve Cunningham is the same height as Holmes. http://files.ctctcdn.com/b2ff931f001...9bacc9b471.jpg

Oh and hes actual world class...

This is very late but Fury is definitely nowhere near 4 inches taller than Cooney. They shook hands during promotions for the Wilder fight- Fury looked an inch, maybe an inch and a half taller at best. The video is on youtube.

Fury's listed at 6'-9"...... Cooney was listed at 6'-6". Sometimes posture and video angles might distort height differences a bit. Other than that, Ross is fairly prone to exaggeration so I'm surprised he didn't say Fury is half a foot taller.

Regardless, '80 Holmes would've easily beaten '16 Fury, IMO.

    BTW, welcome to the forum.

Larry Holmes would whistle a straight right into Fury's belly like a spear.

    The gypsy would crumple.
