Well that fuckin sucks.
So Wilder looked mediocre even in dominating?
In terms of rounds he dominated but I see him mediocre in terms of the real estate he gives up and specifically his posture when falling into the ropes with a guy who didn't have to 'work' his way in. Chris and others just bulled in and Wilder is still and repeatedly doing this awful thing where he basically puts his arms out and at times agrees to wrestle or fling his head around like he is being sprayed with a hose. The range is gone in an instant and his footwork crosses more often than not. I've said it from day one that it looks like a guy who never had to improve a flawed mobile defense while facing a Chinese menu of soft cans coming up and now it's a flaw that has been learned and part of him now. In large gaps its that scattered backing out as well as whirlwind delivery that leaves him as vulnerable as it does an opponent actually working his way in with top notch set up and jab..something he still has not had to face. Any and all improvement will have to happen on the job against far better opposition..we hope..and I can't even call it "amateur" traits. Its this off jumble of rawness really and resting on knowing he has pop. I see a guy like Joshua with amateur tendencies. Something that can be adjusted and the professionalism, sharpness to then add to the void. Course correction. Wilder did well to bust Chris up. He is indeed exciting but he still, to me, resembles a guy whistling past the graveyard. Eventually it will catch up in devastating fashion.
