    Most fighters quit.

Humans have a genetic predisposition to avoid serious damage, hence the 'fight or flight' mechanism that is inbuilt into us all. Notice that there is an 'or' in there!

Some will stop throwing punches when they are under pressure in a subconscious effort to get the ref to step in. Some will narrowly fail to beat the ten count and then make it look as if they just miscounted. Some will take a split second too long to respond to the ref after a knockdown. Some even belive they didn't quit, but they did.

There is no shame in that.

The really psychotically brave fighters are in a glorious minority.

Totally forgot Ortiz quitting against Maidana.

Freitas...yeah he went out in a sorrowful manner.
    Oliver McCall....nervous breakdown...doesnt count.

If you can find shobox Anthony Peterson vs Jermain White...lopsided doozy. I think Jermain stated to his corner. ."man I'm through"
    Corner "c'mon one more round"
    Jermain"Naw .. I'm done!"
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!

Thought of another one. Bert Cooper got up against Moorer, but the ref saw he didn't want no more.

Some fighters really do go out on their shield.
    Others quit.

I give Cooper a pass on that war. Bert was a walking contradiction over career full of self sabotage. Fantastic run for couple of years sandwiched by flat out quits and back turns on a half dozen occasions. Crack is whack!
