Never seen him fight so I have no idea. I would assume that Canelo had this fight picked for him because they knew he would win.

I've said all along I smell a massive upset here. One things for sure they're gonna go at it from the off, no fucking about and this could be over pretty quickly maybe around 4-5 rounds.
Smith is so confident so far and I just hope nerves don't get the better of him during the ring walk.
Im expecting an all action fight on the 17th.

Oh definitely, Smith and Warren have both said that themselves that Smith is seen as the weak link in the division but they have used it to their advantage to get the fight and they know that Canelo is underestimating him

I have never seen him fight and there is an assumption that he will lose but if he has anything to offer, even if it's a razor type jab one fact remains, Canelo has never been in a hard fight round after round. If Smith can throw combinations and move around Canelo consistently he would at least hold him to a decision but like I said, I have never seen him fight and good luck Mr. Smith. One more thing they are called upsets because you never see it coming. Mike Weaver. Buster Douglas and you can make you own list for others who didn't see it coming.

I know little of Liam Smith, but... how much will he weigh on the night of the fight? Is he a naturally big guy? 'Cause he's going to have to come in at a comfortable 175 to be anywhere close to Canelo's size. If he's somewhere between 160-165, he'd better have a plan that does not involve trading with Canelo, 'cause that's precisely what Canelo's camp is banking on..... a smaller guy trading with Canelo.

Liam smith is a rather big fellow, not sure exactly how big but I dont think there is going to be a huge difference, two of smiths brothers are super middleweights, not that that really means much as his other one is in the smaller weight classes :S

Joe Gallagher says the fights off unless Canelo makes weight.

Smith's Trainer: If Canelo Fails To Make Weight - Fight is Off! - Boxing News
Fair play to Joe Gallagher for trying to get into Team Canelo's head, but not being funny, who listens to Joe Gallagher? He's full of wind and piss! He KNOWS there's a very strong chance Canelo doesn't make the weight and the fight WILL go ahead. Smith will be weighed in with a few more coppers and keep his title.
The only thing I'm not altogether certain of is the result. If Canelo comes in on weight , Smith has a great chance. If Canelo comes in over, Smith still has a decent chance IMO, just depends how (de)motivated he is .
Canelo won't have as big a size advantage on fight night as he normally does.

Canelo has never weighed in over 155, and he's never missed that or come in heavy for any fight that I'm aware of. Haven't even heard of him needing extra time to make weight, or anything like that. I'm not sure why the one pound is such a talking point for this one?

I think it is because he only tends to fight people who are a lot lighter than him, he won't have such an advantage this time so people assume he will miss the weight in order to blow up bigger than usual.

Fair enough. I wasn't saying otherwise about his opponents, although Lara is a good natural JMW that he beat fair and square, and nobody had any problem with the 155 catchweight for Cotto beforehand. I think that weight was used just so he could parade around as middleweight champ, not because he had any trouble making 154. If he comes in heavy for this I'll eat crow I guess, but there is no evidence that making the weight will hamper him, and I don't think he needs an unfair advantage to beat Smith myself.

Canelo has weighed as much as 175 on fight night (unofficially) so, he'll be a lot bigger than Smith on fight night.... And I agree w/ the poster that said Smith will need a KO to win and keep his belt... I'm rooting for Smith to score the upset KTFO and for this PPV to tank..... There's no way this fight card should be a PPV, it's pretty lame top to bottom....
