His defense is his biggest weakness, but fortunately he has a solid chin. He can take a punch to give a punch which has worked out for him thus far. You can't be good at everything.
    Floyd is good at everything.
I'm not sure if that's sarcastic or not but he doesn't have great power (even at lighter weights) and has trouble when fighters really pressure him against the ropes.
    Come on powerpuncher!

    Don't sound like everyone else!

    Really? Power?!

49 opponents and probably 40 of those opponents had more power than floyd...stop nit picking..accept the reality and realise that skills win fights and a great boxer beats a great fighter everytime.

JC was a great boxer and beat everyone...including loads of opponents that had more power than him..Andre ward is the same.

After Andre beats kovalev and drops a few pounds to destroy GGG we can have this discussion again and what power made to these undefeated legends.!
I'm confused. My point is that everyone has a weakness. I agree that Floyd is great and that his lack of power was made up for by his various other skills. Maybe I was just confused by your comment that Floyd is good at everything. I mean, you just admitted that most of his opponents had more power than him right?

So I'm going to say we agree but somehow got misinterpreted

Floyd wasn't a light puncher though, if he were he would've struggled a lot more with many of his later and heavier opponents. He wasn't heavy handed and obviously didn't sell out for his punch ever, but there's no way a good few guys wouldn't have fought him with more abandon if he literally couldn't punch, absolutely no way. If you watch the fights closely it's freaking obvious he wasn't some featherfist, but whatever suits people I guess.

I'm not sure that things are as cut and dried as that.

Boxers like Floyd, who are geared up and balanced to avoid shots and counterpunch are not set up to throw power punches. Much of their weight is 'high up' (ie they are not standing with a low centre of gravity, which generates extra power).

I would argue that this is more a function of their style than their natural power. If GGG had a fighting stance like Floyd's he would avoid many more punches but he would hit with less power. If Paulie Malignaggi squared up more like GGG he would hit with a lot more power but would sacrifice some mobility and speed.

As an amateur, GGG was a slick counterpuncher, and if you see any of his fights his entire set up, stance and weight distribution was different. Funnily enough, so was Tommy Hearns ..... The way he stood was completely different when he was a hit and run amateur. Fighting him then was like fighting a COMPLETELY different guy (something that a few opponents did say)

Many people on other threads have questioned whether Ray Leonard could punch or not. Some say not, some say he was devastating.

If you watch the first Hearns fight, when he did change from a boxer to a puncher, you will see that his entire fighting stance changed accordingly based on the tactics he was going to use. For most of the fight he was balanced on both feet, high centre of gravity etc. He morphed into a front foot, low centre of gravity, stalking puncher later in the fight.

    There are probably two points I'm trying to make here;

    1. Any moderately successful professional boxer can punch very hard when they want to.

    2. You can predict the fight strategy and tactics of any fighter based on their fighting stance.

Fair enough I was a bit harsh.

I did say he was good at everything and good power is not KO power.

Post pacman we really all need to stop the hating and just accept his greatness..its that simple.

He won't get bloody and beaten in the face like a fake rocky movie..this is real life where Apollo creed is undefeated and just as flashy.

I can happily admit that the berto and pac fight was not as enjoyable as the canelo fight but Floyd is about not taking punishment..are we saying it's cool to get beaten up rather than slip, avoid or counter?

Floyd is your favourite boxers favourite boxer.
