My Facebook and Twitter feeds have been swarmed with hyperbolic nonsense about WW3 coming, how Trump is the new Hitler and there'll be concentration camps set up before the year is out, etc!

The truth is America will be just fine!

I'll leave the jibberish to you Lyle. You're upset about stagnant wages. That's your own words. The reason wages are stagnant is due to economic policies that have favoured the wealthy over the rest of Americans that have been introduced by successive presidents from Reagan onwards.

There has been huge economic growth since Reagan took office -- the economy has grown from four trillion to sixteen trillion, GDP per capita has increased four or fivefold, productivity the same thing. Yet the media wage earner is making less than he was when Reagan took office. All the increases in wealth due to economic expansion have gone to the top 1%. And the first thing Trump is going to do is pass a gigantic tax cut which will increase the upward redistribution of wealth that we've seen since 1980. Pretty much every policy he's got planned is going to increase economic inequality and make things worse for the 99%.

Apart from trade. There the jury is out. I'll be the first to say well done if he actually does anything effective there but I don't think that tangerine idiot is going to manage anything useful. He will send the national debt skyrocketing, scrap all financial regulations that came in since 2008 thus setting America up for another huge economic meltdown and generally make the economy even more unequal though.

    1. Stagnant wages & policies favoring the super wealthy......yeah that's an issue of mine it's called ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

    2. Trump wants Americans building and producing goods and services for Americans...I don't see that as a bad thing. I see OVER 94 MILLION Americans out of work and I think to myself "That's not a good thing, that's not the direction this country should be heading. Americans are proud people we want to work we want to consume but we also want to produce"....that not do anything for you? I mean sure you AREN'T American and you never will be but surely you can comprehend the positive feelings one has after a job well done can't you?

    3. We'll just have to wait and see if your magic crystal ball is right when it comes to that....but PLEASE continue pouting because I don't know about anyone else but I am really enjoying it

It's got a limited amount to do with illegal immigration but it's mainly because workers have no bargaining pwer anymore due to presidents from Reagan onwards curbing unions. Unions used to keep wages tied to productivity increases -- if you increased your productivity you got paid more. And because unions had a third of the country as members if you were nonunion your bosses had to keep your pay up otherwise you'd unionise. If pay had kept pace with productivity American workers would be making 44% more than they are now.

    2. There aren't 94 MILLION OUT OF WORK you fucking idiot. Remember we went through this before? That 94 MILLION number includes every high school student over 15, every retired person, senior citizen, early retired, disabled, college student, people in further education and so on. Get a bigger shelf fitted.

A Trump administration is going to be an enigma till it gets going. The only thing we're guaranteed is a massive fucking tax cut. If I paid much in tax I'd get something like $100 000 cut for every million I make so I'll be fine. I'll make outlike a bandit during the Trump years with all the coming deregulation. The median earner will get about five hundred dollars a year. The current GOP budget which Trump will probably sign gives a huge tax cut to Americans but 99.6% of the cut goes to the top 1% of earners. It helps claw some of the hold it would make in the deficit back by cutting spending on food stamps and other public assistance. But what happens if somebody tells Trump that the vast majority of people on food stamps and public assistance are low income whites - Trump voters?

The GOP now control all three branches of government. On issues like healthcare, taxes, economic growth and trade they're the dog who caught the car. They've been able to create massive hate in their voting base by amping up the Obama administration's handling of these issues but now they've got to deal with them themselves and they've got to actually produce policies instead of ranting about the other side.

Lots of those 94 million people are over eighty years of age. Zimmer frames, pacemakers. Titanium hips. Alzheimers. Presumably you agree it's not the Kenyan's fault that they're no longer in gainful employment. I'm pretty sure everybody else managed to understand it. Bigger shelf mate. Get a bigger one fitted.

"Lots".....well that's a bit vague Mr. Charts & Graphs......why ever would you be so obscure in your response? That's highly unlike you, but I understand that this loss has hit you very hard in the ego and you just might not be "yourself" yet. Take your time honey

I could give you a bunch of exact numbers but they wouldn't all fit on your little shelf Lyle. Right now there's about 5% of the workforce unemployed and maybe as much as 3% underemployed. That's roughly as good as it ever got during the Bush administeation. The percentage of Americans actually working had dropped a couple of points under Obama but that's almost all due to the large number of baby boomers who hve retired over the last eight years. But the big boomer generation started retiring in 2000ish and the percentage of Americans actually working has been dropping since then. Big demographic change -- lots of the boomer generation moving from working to retiring scews the overall numbers by a few points -- did this fit on the shelf?

    Also, too. Who said this.

    I want Trump to win.

    and

Not sure Trump can do anything but letting the genie out of the bottle on how big business runs America may help create further outbreaks of democracy in the future.

    and

He only needs to flip a few big close states like Florida and Ohio and he can win this, don't listen to all the pundits saying he's got no chance.

You don't understand charts and graphs when I do post them. We both know exposing you to facts and evidence just makes you angry and upset. Even on the rare occasions something does manage to land on the shelf they never stay there for anything more than a few days.

It looks like Trump is planning a massive economic stimulus programme. I'm just interested in getting your thoughts on a massive big government spending programme so that I can compare them to your 2009 views on the massive big government Obama spending programme that the GOP blocked?

Trump is going to invest in the infrastructure of USA, which is a good thing, I hope he does not just give himself these contracts.

So you're saying you can't back up your claims then? OK, I just wanted to be clear.

Ah you mean because Barack Obama failed to address infrastructure issues which he was specifically given funds for.....yeah, Trump will have to tidy up Obama's mess we all knew it was going to happen because Obama sure as fuck didn't do a damned thing about it even though he was given the money to. And if Trump doesn't accomplish it, then he's going to be on the hook for it.
