Luis Ortiz added to card vs everyones trial horse Derric Rossy. Three weeks after turning 39.

Piss or get off the pot seems more and more applicable to Ortiz.

A loss to GGG wouldn't hurt Canelo too much in my opinion. Look at Brook and Jacobs. If Canelo took the fight for a start he'd get some respect and if he gave a good account of himself that would increase.

Don't necessarily agree with that. If Canelo is this massive draw , he should be looking to win this.
Brook was 2 weight divisions below GGG. Canelo is totally different, he's the BIGGER GUY no matter what anyone would have us believe.
TBH, I'm not even that bothered about seeing the fight anymore.

Of course Canelo should be backing himself to win. I also would prefer a Jacobs rematch over this. What I'm saying is that if Canelo took the fight and made it competitive like Jacobs did it would raise his stature. If he won then it's obvious he would be the sports biggest star.

But this is the thing. He's a massive star already. I can't see how a loss of any kind makes him the biggest star in boxing, because it's a loss.
And this is why the fight hasn't been made. It's not what Canelo has to lose or gain, it's what OSCAR has to lose. He's quite happy to keep cashing him in, and if he loses Oscar can't keep spouting bullshit, so in Oscar's mind , why take the risk?

It's probably more so Oscar & Golden Boy than Canelo but he needs to shoulder some of the blame. If he really wanted the fight he would force their hand. Like he did with Lara I suppose. I don't think anyone said a loss makes him the biggest star in boxing. If the fight is a war or close or Canelo wins I don't think his popularity takes much of a hit. If he is blown out in a round or 2 then it would be disastrous for them. I still think he'd get big paydays in his return fights.

Recently in the heavyweights you have to hope the "Where have they dug that opponent up from ?" Is not soon accompanied by corner men with spades
I'm wondering if Ortiz is breaking a record for -Interim stand still..maybe soon..champion- now. We all know the shiny trinkets and belts might as well fall out of gumball machines but watching "just glad to be considered" Fres Oquendo and Shannon Briggs get to it before arguably one of the more realistic threats is a joke.

Yeah the WBA are a joke for sanctioning that fight as for a title. Maybe an eliminator. Old Fres had his nice little court mandated shot so nothing they could do I suppose. Wlad/ Joshua should have been for the vacant title and Briggs/ Oquendo should have been for the interim at most. Hopefully the mess gets cleaned up by the end of the year.

Thought Fres really did watch it tick away vs Chagaev and he's riding a bit of the charity train off injury. Same Briggs who has legitimately beat one top 10 fighter. Tremendous self marketer though and a monster in the vitamin aisle. Where are all of the 'next' American heavyweights ffs.

Crazy thing is that Browne was also among the mess until he roided himself out. All the sanctioning bodies are sh-t but the WBA are a laughing stock. They have been taking steps to eliminate many of the regular and interim titles but it has been a real slow burn. Didn't Ortiz give up his interim title as well? Way off topic now.

Oscar needs to cut his boy loose. Let Canelo fight his battles in the ring instead of all the sh-t talk outside of it. If he loses oh well you can't win em all but at least back yourself.
