A loss to GGG wouldn't hurt Canelo too much in my opinion. Look at Brook and Jacobs. If Canelo took the fight for a start he'd get some respect and if he gave a good account of himself that would increase.

Don't necessarily agree with that. If Canelo is this massive draw , he should be looking to win this.
Brook was 2 weight divisions below GGG. Canelo is totally different, he's the BIGGER GUY no matter what anyone would have us believe.
TBH, I'm not even that bothered about seeing the fight anymore.

Of course Canelo should be backing himself to win. I also would prefer a Jacobs rematch over this. What I'm saying is that if Canelo took the fight and made it competitive like Jacobs did it would raise his stature. If he won then it's obvious he would be the sports biggest star.

But this is the thing. He's a massive star already. I can't see how a loss of any kind makes him the biggest star in boxing, because it's a loss.
And this is why the fight hasn't been made. It's not what Canelo has to lose or gain, it's what OSCAR has to lose. He's quite happy to keep cashing him in, and if he loses Oscar can't keep spouting bullshit, so in Oscar's mind , why take the risk?

It's probably more so Oscar & Golden Boy than Canelo but he needs to shoulder some of the blame. If he really wanted the fight he would force their hand. Like he did with Lara I suppose. I don't think anyone said a loss makes him the biggest star in boxing. If the fight is a war or close or Canelo wins I don't think his popularity takes much of a hit. If he is blown out in a round or 2 then it would be disastrous for them. I still think he'd get big paydays in his return fights.

Sorry, I misread your post about the biggest star in Boxing. But I think Oscar is more worried about the risk/reward than Canelo is. I do accept Canelo could force the issue, but it's difficult when to be fair , Canelo has made a lot of money from associating with Oscar.

True. Didn't he lose a lot in those recent lawsuits? $8m or so. Oscar fought most of the top guys so it seems strange he is holding Canelo back. Canelo is their biggest star tho so I guess he want to milk it as much as possible until his stable is solid again.
