Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Oh he's a long night for anyone! Evander could box, he could stick and move, he could go toe to toe, he could land bombs, everything in boxing Evander could do.
I often wonder how Evander Holyfield vs Ike Ibeabuchi would have gone down.....I certainly know Evander would not lose that fight, I'm just wondering if he would have KO'd Ike.
Chris Byrd vs Michael Dokes or Michael Moorer would have been wonderful fights prime for prime
Byrd telling it like it is. Bowe could have made the fight easier for himself but Holyfield was always a taxing fight.
Good stuff there. Like seeing two recent top dogs talk shop. Have to feel for Bowe a bit there. Do wonder if some of his problem was always trying to be everything to everybody immediately off the title win and honestly his career misfires went beyond what style he fought on any given night. Refrigerators in the bedroom didn't help. For years I always heard and believe it was Holyfield who went off the tracks and got sucked into trying to out muscle and brawl inside with Bowe. Right around mid point of the 2nd after Bowe clocked him right below the belt, up until that point Holyfield was ripping combos landing lead rights and even out jabbing him. Bowe was a solid inside fighter when it came to heavyweights and he sapped Holyfield badly with that and physical advantage. You could always attach a jab to Holyfields forehead but Bowes long right hand and taller approach was always going to be met with Holyfields counter speed and combination punching. If you ask me Holyfield screwed himself badly and Bowe used a strong suit and had his top career night there. It's never a fighters option to have "if only I woulda" when there is someone in the other corner the likes of which Bowe had never come close to facing. You don't arguably get out boxed by Tony Tubbs and face the likes of Bigfoot Martin and Coetzer in lead up and then not also look for and benefit on Holyfield being as thick as a tree stump when it came to sticking to a game plan himself.
First time thinking about Moorer and Byrd and interesting. Like the similarities with "smaller" guys evolving careers to be top heavyweights though Moorer was an absolute beast at lt hvy. Definitely seemed to lose some of that mindset after. Both had fantastic hands and quality jabs. Always tempted to pick against Moorer because of his chin but he might actually surprise Byrd with true power in Moorers fast jab and catch up to him. Be a fun one for sure.
