This is a really interesting subject and suggests that a lot of spiritual, esoteric and great literature was rather than being based on superstition and nonsense, actually came from a provable intuition. I can remember how much sense it made to me when the neuro consultant explained to me that the spasticity in my Mrs arm was as much due to the signals not being received back from the clenched arm (due to damage in that part of the brain) as the signals not being sent out. Much of your work here has reaffirmed the idea that the entire mind and body are a feedback system that , for me at least, is often dismissed because of a reliance on Greek or "literal" thinking where logic and intellect ignore experience. I know from supporting students on medical courses that there is even growing credence being given to the idea of heart memory. It seems incredible that we can understand and accept muscle memory, but the idea of a heart being an intelligent muscle is dismissed. There are reports of people craving the same food as donors and even one of a donor whistling incessantly a tune composed by the donor (a musician and composer) which turned out to be the last thing he was working on. This may be exaggerated or misreported but the concept rings true to me. It is not some abstract soppy notion when musicians say they feel something and when they are in the zone, the heart and other organs confirm this, music is after all , not just an intellectual exercise. Centering, Chakras, Meditation and many things that have preceded martial arts have innately recognised this idea that the core of performative action is not a brain lesson but something in which the whole body must be engaged in.

    Thanks Scrap. Great stuff.
