His last fight was supposed to be that, if he goes any lower he may as well stop.

True, I was thinking a Paul Smith type.

If De gale loses to him he would retire but if he wins then he may think should have gone for the title fight and I do not know if the new champ would wait that long anyway.

I think De Gale should have a closed fight, possibly with Paul Smith to see if he has anything left at the top level. If he does he would carry on if he loses/takes a beating, he should announce his retirement.

DeGale in truth looked shopworn he was terrible he got beat by nothing more than above average club fighter,! I could not believe how bad James performed lucky it was not Eubank or Groves he was facing that night he would have been KO simple.

DeGale did look shopworn , but we shouldn't take away from Truax's performance, I think the guy deserves a bit of respect. DeGale couldn't really wait , I don't think it's his choice when he re-activates his rematch clause , it's either "do you want it or not?" he had no choice really. Either he's at the level or not and there's only one way to find out .
Also , i don't like tearing into people for the sake of it , but I don't think he gets anything whatsoever from his trainer. It wouldn't hurt him to go with a strict disciplinarian who fucking tells him exactly how it is . Somebody who can stand up to his ego.
He could come back and be a force, but it'll take a lot of humility, hard work and soul searching. without knowing the guy personally, i don't know if he's capable of that.

Jim McDonald is a tough trainer who may actually over work his boxers. I think it is more the wear and tear of his body that is the question.

I don't really want to slag him off because he seems like an OK guy and I loved him as a Boxer.
But as a trainer, I think he's a bit clueless and lost at the top level. I also think that maybe DeGale gets his way a bit too much with him.
If DeGale has any designs on being a top level , he needs a top level trainer. Too easy to say Ingle because of what he's done with BJS, and McCracken probably wouldn't work with his history with Froch although it shouldn't really be a barrier. I dunno, Virgil Hunter maybe?
