Spicoli I totally agree with that and I always wondered why so many people did things just to be able to get something back in return. It seems like it defeats the whole purpose of doing good works

I don't know. I look at my fortune and misfortune and I put only some down to chance. I take responsibility and think I got myself sick and when I bounce back that is down to me making changes. You make your own luck. It's like an open world game. You can die like a mad man every time, but you can use your brain too if you want to and increase your odds. It's up to you. I saw a man yesterday who must have weighed 350 pounds. Maybe some medical issues there, but I bet he wasn't born like that. It takes some doing. You do it to yourself. I think when you quit with the pitty party and say 'Maybe I got myself into this' you have a better chance at staving off the devil. Get walking. Eat that salad. Shout at that neighbor. It will do you good.

Yes the question answers itself really. With some the whole purpose is to achieve their own goal be it manipulating or just being a phony. They don't keep count of the bridges burned on the way though and are "shocked" when ultimately the same good will stops coming their way. Karma is an investment done naturally and it's own best reward.

It’s ludicrous and incredibly insulting to believe in such a thing, but I suppose it helps people.

It all sort of falls to pieces when kids get cancer or 19 year olds get a brain hemorrhage whilst pregnant though. Personally, Ill will and being a cunt to others will catch up with you, some times instantly, but there is so much random bad shite that happens in life it's a bit self righteous to believe that someone else's tragedy, ill health or plain bad luck is down to there own negative actions.

I think in the case of Bad Karma that it can be generated by an individual unconsciously or subconsciously without even realizing it. I have seen this before. Many times. I have seen co-workers in the office who nobody seems to like. and that person can't seem to figure out why. And the way they see the world when you listen to what they say is very one-sided and they seem incapable of seeing themselves. I have seen that a lot. so in that case I think the person unknowingly is continuing to generate bad energy and bad vibrations and Bad Karma. Now this can happen from deep-seated issues that have not come to the surface. Perhaps they were abused in their childhood and it has not come to the surface of Consciousness all the way because it would be too painful to realize. So subconsciously they are being manipulated by certain developmental abnormalities and the world is perceiving this and that person is done being treated accordingly by the world. This is a sad case. But it is all too common.

So it might not be any kind of magical or religious concept that a kind of God is wielding or not. It might just simply come down to a person who is in denial either consciously or semi consciously or even completely unconscious of the way they affect others and then they will forever be generating this negative kind of feedback loop and never be able to understand what is happening and how it is happening.

Dunno but that's often the same thing people say about faith in God. Sure inevitably something will come around to muck up the day if we wait long enough but personally I can't attribute it to bad or good 'luck' without giving ones direct negative actions and decisions much more plausibility. I mean they are negative..and theirs right? Of course not always. Philosophy holds no ground over unforeseen tragedy that can hit us all but ya can't just dismiss cause and effect.

What I mean by bad luck are health conditions that people are born with , people shot whilst going to school, etc that throws the whole karmic explanation into question. A karmic record that carries over (and I hate to use this word because it is a mainly Christian hangup/Invention) 'Sins' from a previous life, and punish people for them in this. For me Death should be the great leveler and the idea of second chances, forgiveness and heaven etc has been the excuse for incredible debauchery and barbarity among the religious for millennia.
