Kovalev is not the feared Krusher he once was tho, he has lost that aura. Could be a rough ending for Kov's career from here on out.

I agree it could end badly if he takes the toughest fights, but an Alvarez rematch is winnable, a Stevenson fight certainly is, as unlikely that may be to get made. its not that grim as long as he thinks of his next couple fights as an exit, I’m sure he’s made decent money and he hasn’t taken any major punishment.

Tough call...he had been rolling along so well and then that stoppage loss oooh that was not good for him. Well there's the problem for any fighter who fights in that style eventually you'll run into someone who catches you and you won't react so well to it.

I get it I do, I get that taking a few shots here and there that you see coming and you just shake off like nothing happened really gets at the psyche of your opponent, but so does "swing and a miss, swing and a miss, swing and a miss, and DAMNIT STAY STILL WHILE I BEAT YOU!!!!" as does "I'm going to land this time!!! Oh I got hit in the face and didn't even come close to making contact"...those while less intimidating are extremely frustrating and a frustrated fighter is a fighter eager to make a mistake.

So what should Krusher do? Well if he's up for a rematch then there's that idea, if he wants to rebuild his career he's a bit old for it at 35, he's recently (2017) swapped trainers, maybe getting back with John David Jackson would give him something, he could take on cruiserweight bulk up a bit maybe?

    My picks in order...

#1. Have a (maybe multiple depending on how well they do) farewell fight(s) in Russia

    #2. Retire

#3. Get back with John David Jackson and have another go at the titles.

I've heard HBO isn't interested in the rematch. Will have to start shopping it around the other networks.

They have seemed to be heading that direction for awhile now.

All the competition of the smaller competitors including ESPN have left them behind.

There's a chicken or the egg argument here. Because HBO has realized there is far more subscriptions for them in original programming than in boxing. That's why their cards have sucked for years, really no interest. Add a new element of competition to a market HBO isn't particularly concerned with and we can see where it is going.

You are right, if they invested in boxing (they certainly had the know how) they could compete but seemed to have made the decision that they will disinvest which is a shame for its subscribers.

They have also made some really bad choices with some of the guys they have tried to push recently. Cletus Seldin and Jezreel Corrales fit example.

Maybe these are the fighters they can afford with their budget and try to push but just are not up to scratch. Either way the company seems to be going downhill in regards to boxing. Boxnation is going that way over here.

It's disappointing because they have actually made an effort to focus on some of the lower weights, like the Superfly cards.

I wish they had of realized this over a decade or so ago.

Retiring would not be a bad idea. He was what he as for a time. We knew he was good, but the next all time great was a big stretch. I think at this point and age he may not be able to handle Stevenson either, and Stevenson is a little bit more of a hype/fluff job than Kovalev was.

People wanted that fighter with the right "profile" to be built up to beat Andre Ward. It was a doomed effort from the jump.

What we saw in Ward was an ALL TIME GREAT FIGHTER... Not a great champion in his era, BUT AN ALL TIME GREAT FIGHTER AND CHAMPION!

Kov should just retire, or fight Stevenson for a whole lot of money, get bombed out and then retire.
