Seems posts are auto saved while typing them out but not sure if it's at a certain number of lines, characters etc?
If you're bumped off thread for whatever reason, fat fingers, drunk or random flying cat it looks like you can hit 'reply to thread' again and look in the lower left corner of post window for a "restore auto saved content" feature, hit it and boom..there it is. I really could have used this when joined on dial up.
