98%? 99%? 99.5%?

Because all I'm saying is I don't believe in the all-or-nothing. But it seems you want to drive the argument there.

What percentage?

Mind you, that would leave 1% or less as actual decent people.

Well to be honest what I personally would like is for America to fix the homeless crisis we already have, help out veterans, help quell the Opioid/Heroin addiction that's currently killing 72,000 people a year.....you know before we start worrying about the problems of other nations.

18-35 year old men should be changing their governments BY FORCE if necessary. The United States ain't the baby sitter of the world. If their countries are fucked up then why not have the PRIDE to change things for the better there? When Hurricane Maria came and fucked Puerto Rico up....you and your family didn't leave, you rolled up your sleeves and got to making shit right and that my friend is commendable, it shows heart, loyalty, grace under fire, commitment to your HOME, pride in your HOME....I'm not saying 100% of everyone stay put, but bruh, women & children off the sinking ships first. How is anything going to be accomplished in the nations these folks flee from without men aged 18-35? That's the workforce, that's the police force, that's the military, that's the lifeblood of a nation and they're leaving......send money back for what? To what? What are they trying to get their families to be the wealthiest poor people? It makes no sense.

All I want is for them to follow our laws should they want to come here. Which means go to the US Embassy in your nation, apply for asylum or citizenship or a green card or what have you by the LEGAL route, the respectable route....I'd be all for making it less of a hassle for folks to come in legally maybe it would curb the bullshit sneaking across the borders, but dude these folks aren't free to treat with healthcare, they aren't free to teach, they aren't free to feed, they aren't free to charge criminally and detain.....these folks cost money that taxpayers would rather use on veterans, the elderly, our OWN problems not the ones we let sneak in.....how is that bad, horrible, racist, bigoted, hateful? The world is a shitty place, there's a distinct gap of capitalism/freedom/liberty which is unevenly spread around the globe that's the crux of the problem.

When Maria ran us over worse than we've ever been run over before, make no mistake about it... many people did leave. Usually whole families, looking to get a fresh start somewhere else. Having the benefit of U.S. citizenship, many moved to the States. Some have come back. But yeah... most of us just bore down and went about the process of rebuilding what had been destroyed, and making it better. Staying or leaving is a personal choice... and I myself don't criticize those who left.

I get that the world's problems aren't distributed evenly across the globe, just like I get that a nation has every right to protect its borders and its way of life. I've never said otherwise. But there seems to be a general panic with anything having to do with immigrants. Which is ironic if you think about it, because the vast majority of us come from families who have immigrated at one point or another in history. Before you respond, I get it that immigrants back in the day are by and large different from a lot of modern immigrants. But they were immigrants just the same. And they had to face down a lot of grief, heartache, obstacles in the form of huge "Not Welcome" mats (figuratively speaking), prejudice, and a lot of other things. So anger and resentment toward immigrants is nothing new.

Yes... the U.S. has plenty of its own problems to fix. But nobody is asking them to give anyone a free ride. If you don't/can't contribute to your new society, you have no business going there. See that's the thing with these arguments. Maybe not you, but someone like Miles immediately goes off the deep end thinking that I'm advocating throwing the gates wide open. Where have I ever said that. I'll pay actual money to anyone who can find a quote from me saying such a thing. I just like to temper arguments that become emotional hot buttons, because IMO nothing good ever comes from emotional arguments. I believe there's a way around just about anything... we only need to sit down and figure it out.

At least the U.S. is geographically distinct from European countries, including the UK. The U.S. basically has to worry about the Mexican border, and that's pretty much it. Speaking of which, I'm not in favor...... repeat..... not in favor of throwing out the welcome mat to these caravans and offering coffee on the way in. But in other threads I was having to defend the position of not "mowing down the toothless, smelly, illiterate peasants" against someone else on this forum. And when I would complain about the stupidity of such a plan..... all I got in return was that I was saying throw them the welcome mat and offer them coffee. Hardly the way to carry on an adult conversation. Thankfully he's not around at the moment for me to have to argue like that.
