Could have gone either way. Manny should retire.
Could have gone either way. Manny should retire.
Manny started so well, but rather than crumble Thurman really made a fight of it and had his great moments too. Very back and forth at times, but I think because of the first half Manny and causing more hurt Manny won, but that was not easy for him and you can tell by how he looks. He took a lot of very hard punches in there. I am not sure I can endure these Manny fights. I checked my heart rate after round 7 and it was 140. The man is enough to induce a panic attack just by watching. God knows what it must be like to be in there with him.
In saying that manny saying he will come back next year, I just think there comes a point when he has to stop. Roach was warning Toney when he was getting hit too much. I hope he is telling Manny the same. The end is getting near here and he looked a bit winded against the younger fighter at times there. Maybe a final big fight to go out on a high, but it cannot be much more than that surely.
In terms of scores, I didn't score it, but don't see how Thurman was up on one card. I think Manny by 3 or 4 rounds makes sense then the extra point for the KD. Too excited to even bother with scoring though. Really fun fight.
All in against a final young lion and then call it a day perhaps. Please never fight Amir Khan.
Well its just as fentanyl says, Manny won the “fight”and Thurmans having no argument for that suggests he knows it as nobody in that kind of fight is trying to score, but in terms of rounds It was very close and there were at least a few Thurman did win clear I thought. Certainly didnt see it as Manny having his way except for the first 4 or 5 rounds, he was missing a lot and taking big shots. Was actually surprised he held up to them so well overall, but I think its because Thurman landed most of his best stuff either in a phone booth or coming forward, rather than walk Manny onto anything.
I watched the KD replay on you tube and it was a clean KD no tripping or foot stepping. Pacquiao proved he can still bang in the Ring at 40 but father time keeps creeping in with each fight.
Close fight but Pac won.
Spence would kill Thurman with the body shots.
Manny still looked old in certain parts of the fight and should retire or face Crawford or Spence.
I expected Thurman to play counter but it was apparent from the opening round he was molasses compared to Pac and not half as talented as Marquez who could punch with him as well as walk him onto shit. And after the first round, even when pressuring he looked "terrified" (over-conscious) of the burst coming back.
Thurman's success with pressure just confirmed Ricky Hatton would have battered Pac if it wasn't for the lucky punch in the 2nd round.

Woke up this morning and read all the posts and was just about to post how I agreed with all the analysis from everybody until I read that good joke in the last paragraph of the last post.
Obviously intended as a joke, as anyone who knows anything about boxing knows Hatton never belonged in the ring with Manny in the first place. All that chloroforming punch did was accentuate the obvious.
Hell of a good joke, though.
All those scores were fine, Im surprised Thurman did so much better in the second half, but then again it was a 30 year old career welter vs 40 year old Manny. Thurman either gets hurt bad an awful lot, or he doesnt really have any poker face, maybe both. Felt like his body language let him down as he spent the last ten seconds of a couple of rounds he may have been winning looking like he just Seppukued himself. Actually thought he’d get the nod when I heard split decision being so much younger, but then again Manny may fight more times than he will. Id be cool with a rematch I guess, doesnt prove anything but it was a fun fight and I dont see either fighting Spence or Crawford. Good day of fights all around.
I don't think it could have gone either way. It was close mathematically but not in reality, there was only one winner - Manny. He constantly hurt Thurman and dominated rounds whilst Thurman nicked them.

Old man pretty much did what he wanted exactly when he wanted, and won clear. He's not a charity case so fight on for additional 80 dollar ppvs. But I also imagine Spence with the openings and pressure spots Keith managed tonight.
