Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
My uncle lives in very rural North Ontario. His neighbour (I say neighbour, but he lives about 3 miles away) was eaten by a bear last year.
They have these 'bear mats' on their porches, which are big squares of wood with nails in them. Nobody knows what happened here, but they just found a few bits of him and had to identify him by his DNA.
People are assuming that he had a heart attack or something, and that the bear was scavenging his dead body for carrion but nobody knows for sure![]()
If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
Frickin gruesome. I have seen bear Matt’s I know what you are talking about. Do you know what type of bear are in that area? Grizzlys are the ones that get really big as far as I know we don’t have them around here but we also didn’t have cougars until they were just recently spotted again.
I did a little research it seems the best way to fight a bear is with another bear.
Brown bears vary in size more than any other type, grizzlys are a subspecies of them is all. Kodiaks are also and they get as big as polars. If this thing was really under 200 pounds it was likely very young or starving. I honestly didn't think there were many Brown bears in the states outside of Alaska, I take it you aren't in the same place you used to live Walrus?
I’m in the same place P4p in 2018 we had an estimated 800 black bears. Growing by an estimated rate of 10% a year. Female brown bears get around 180 pounds, males go up to 660. I’m guessing in the weight but I certainly believe it was young. I say that as it hadn’t grown into its paws which looked to big for it. Just had to look up the info as tbh I didn’t know what kind or how many bears we have. We are leaving the area but have a while to go.
This morning around 11a I saw a heron in the wild. I’m 90% sure it’s the first time I’ve seen one in the wild, or at least close enough to identify it. Saw it eat a frog or fish. I say 11a but I think it was more like 10:30a. Excellent mid morning view. I think we all watched it in silence for a good seven minutes. I think it ate a frog although it could have been a fish. The day was pretty shitty after that so I was quite glad to glimpse it. I hope Mr. Heron had a good winter, not sure if they stick around these parts all winter, I wouldn’t if I have wings.
Having had a 70lb dog I’ll bet this bear was around 160 or so. I could tell it wasn’t full grown but the size of its paws were quite amazing. I could see the tips of its claws. They didn’t look particularly sharp but I would think a good swipe would rip you open. Who knows master maybe you could take him but I don’t think you would come out unscathed. Brown bears don’t get as big as other types of bears but it was big enough that I’m very glad I was surrounded by metal and glass when I saw it
