Yes american and young are the two reasons.

I know youth is part of it, hence why I listed a list of top young Light middleweights coming up. Which shows my point!

Absolutely being American is a big part of it. That is neither an indictment of the media (well... actually is it) nor a dis of the fighters themselves. But it's always been like that. The U.S. sports media will fawn all over and hype up American athletes in any sport. That's not just boxing, nor is it anything new. Kudos to those who will actually see past the nationality and pay attention where attention is due.

Yes... if you're young and 10-0... common sense and sound logic dictate it might be a bit early to throw "The Great One" parties and all that.

But the American media is forever desperately trying to anoint the next "Great American Superstar", and will stop at nothing to do so.

Take the case of rising young star Edgar Berlanga.

Although the guy is 100% Puerto Rican and only climbs into every ring with the Puerto Rican flag proudly displayed.... and dedicates his fights to his bros down in Puerto Rico.... he's listed as a U.S. fighter with only a passing reference to his Puerto Rican nationality. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's got 16-0 with 16 first round knockouts. Let Berlanga stumble on his way to stardom, and you'll quickly see that turn into "the fallen Puerto Rican boxing star."

Your point about Russian and Ukrainian fighters is well taken. Some have broken through all that and forced their way into the limelight (Golovkin, Lomachenko, etc). But that is because their greatness is undeniable, even for an American boxing media that is starving for "an American Lomachenko."

There's always been some of that it's undeniable. Nationalism or favoritism and some a case of simply marketing only what you know and a promoters house. Shoot I remember many years ago when I was collecting bouts and a friend kept telling me about "this great overlooked kid named Arbachakov" and I was like..who. Didn't know him didn't see him on air over here so again, fans frequent what they're exposed to. A couple years later it turned out Yuri could fight! If you think exposure and favoritism is unfair now..go back to when there was no internet or forums at all . Garcia and Haney need some more development for sure. But it's already been said..by man American fans recently ..that their media hype has pushed a little ahead of actual achievement

In fairness all 3 Lt hvys have had top notch exposure and followings. All headlining cards here. The very first name most go to when talking Canelo at 175 is Beterbiev. Kovalev actually had a huge push early on and made tv from the beginning. Same as a Bohachuk as an example. The fans will follow, they'll come when fighters regardless of Country preform in impressive style. He's actually going against Brandon Adams next month. It's a solid match.

What do you expect American boxing pundits to be talking /writing about? These guys are competing in a marketplace for eyeballs and clicks. Those eyeballs are primarily American and are interested in American fighters or fighters who are at least based in America, not some eastern European fucker with a ridiculous name or some Australian. So pundits and journalists and whoever are going to go with what their market wants because they're competing in a marketplace. If they can generate some hype by comparing a bunch of American fighters to each other in any kind of way then they're obviously going to do that because it's good for their business/career etc.
