Oh totally true! He would also gas out by the 6th or 7th. Surprised he went 15 with Muhammad Ali! He said he really had to pace himself in that fight and he really did well -- some feel he won it by a point, others feel it was a draw, still others feel Ali won. But so true -- I wouldnt say he had a glass jaw as Quarry at that time was in top shape and he really could crack, that Jerry! Nice short punches, hooks, uppercuts. But he definitely got hurt alot.
Shavers hit harder than any fighter in his time and if he was to survive today, it isn't a question of a weak chin, it definitely as you pointed out, his stamina and I can't believe his trainers didn't work on the most important thing on a fighter's training regimen. His fighter's ability to fight to the last second of the last round. Can you imagine the talk about how much more power and destruction he would have then? Remember what they used to say about Iron Mike? It's not so much that you fill your hunger, it's how you do it and what you bring to the table that counts.
