The share of COVID-19 deaths among those who are vaccinated has risen dramatically. In fall 2021, about 3 in 10 adults dying of COVID-19 were vaccinated or boosted. But by January 2022, as we showed in an analysis posted on the Peterson-KFF Health System Tracker, about 4.4 in 10 deaths were vaccinated or boosted. By April 2022, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data show that about 6.5 in 10 adults dying of COVID-19 were vaccinated or boosted, and that remained true through at least August 2022. By November 2022, the CDC data show that the 7.6 in 10 adults dying of COVID-19 were vaccinated or boosted.

An August 2022 analysis of CDC data has resulted in more deaths among those who have taken at least one vaccine dose as opposed to the unvaccinated, a Washington Post analysis published Wednesday finds.

"Fifty-eight percent of coronavirus deaths in August were people who were vaccinated or boosted," the Post reported.

The paper described a "troubling trend" as the share of deaths of people who were vaccinated has been "rapidily rising" over the past year. "
