I dragged myself out of bed to watch this live, i thought Tank would win and he did.
Good boxing chess match, Tanks power is some of the best in boxing.
Well as for the body (Liver) shot this video is interesting and might be used as evidence for the pro Garcia ppl
I've boxed and I know first hand that a good liver shot will have you gasping for air, you don't know what's going on, you just hear a lot of noise and see a lot of people, but you can't comprehend anything and you feel like you have a hole in your lungs, not allowing any oxygen to get in there no matter how much and how hard you're breathing. Almost like a stroke (which I admittedly haven't had but seems to describe it to a tee)
Having said that Garcia didn't have that in his eyes. He was totally alert. Looked at the ref. Nodded his head to indicate he was fine. WAITED FOR THE REFEREE TO COUNT HIM OUT. THEN GOT UP THE MILISECOND HE DID.
Garcia legitimately appeared to be in pain he wasn't exactly writhing in it. The decision to quit that he made was a conscious one and he was clearheaded when he made it. He couldn't find the hail mary left hook that he so desperately needed to stop Tank from methodically breaking him down. I think he could've beaten the count if he really wanted to. It's not like he was incapacitated he'd just had enough.
Boxing justice was served last night.
I had gotten SO frigging tired of the outsized buildup. The whopper to top it all off was seeing two ATG HOFers (Leonard and Pacquiao) being interviewed at ringside before the fight, and seeing the interviewer have the NERVE to mention the words "The Face of Boxing" with regards to the eventual winner of this fight.
If I had been Leonard at that precise moment... I would've laughed out loud and then walked away.
Ryan Garcia made his fame by being a handsome young kid with a humongous Instagram and Tik Tok following. He calls himself "King" and wears that stupid crown on his head. Based on WHAT?? One good fight against Campbell and a predictable win over an undersized and pitiful Fortuna?? Give me a fukking break!
Problem is... many supposedly hardcore boxing fans bought into the hype. And here is probably the TBE of boxing (Leonard) being asked about Ryan becoming the face of boxing.
Whatever happened to fighters coming up through the ranks... earning their stripes... collecting high quality scalps on their way to the top... becoming famous when they FUKKING EARNED IT... ??
Yep... boxing justice was served last night. I don't care whether it was a liver shot... a lung shot... a stomach shot... or whatever organ hurt Ryan when it happened. The kid got his "Welcome to the Trenches" moment.
That crown isn't going to look so good anymore, is it...![]()
You probably recall I was a huge Tank fan 6/7 years ago. I currently am at hater mode as I went with GGG once I realized what he was doing with his career. I turned on Tank when it became clear he was never going to fight Loma. So it’s been a few years I’ve been hating. But I could not stand the thought of Ryan becoming one of the biggest stars in the sport off what he hasn’t done.
Similar to if GGG fought Charlo how quickly I would forgive “we will never fight Charlo”, I would very quickly forgive Tank if he moved to Shakur or the Loma/Haney winner. I love to watch the guy fight, I just can’t stand his career path, same as GGG.
I feel like every fan of the sport should feel the same. Wanting guys to chase legacy and hopefully get wealthy. Not chasing wealth and if legacy comes so be it.
I understand your reasoning and agree on legacy versus wealth.
But even the concept of "chasing legacy" needs to be carefully examined. Chasing legacy, to me, is fighting anybody, anytime, anywhere, under any conditions. Taking on all comers, whether they're in their prime or not. Hopefully they're in their prime when we meet them. If they're slightly on either side of that prime... at least we made the effort to fight them at their best.
You also know me from years on the forum... and I'm sure you know where I'm throwing my shade.
I respect that you've hated on GGG for supposedly avoiding fighters like Charlo, although to be completely honest with you... I think your dislike for GGG and his career have at times been a little unfair. But it's your perception, and of course you're totally entitled to it. With Tank I'm totally on board with what you're saying, although I now feel a bit of gratitude toward him for FINALLY putting a lid on this Instagram King phenomenon. Yes... Tank needs to follow this up with some real challenges. Otherwise he's not really chasing legacy, but rather picking and choosing... which I hate.
But we all know who I consider the Poster Child of this type of career development (picking and choosing) to be. I don't even need to mention his name. Suffice it so say that GGG himself fell victim to this "selective legacy chasing" when the term "marinating" was coined. Yet this same character saw fit to jump ABOVE Golovkin's weight to fight a mummy because he knew had a guaranteed victory. Oh... by the way... someone of his same nationality... which when you think about it puts into ridicule his now convenient excuse to avoid David Benavidez.
There is no PLANET or UNIVERSE where I can respect someone who jumps two weight divisions to pick off inferior belt holders, while at the same time avoiding fighters that everyone knows are the REAL dangers.
Finally, the dude I don't have to name has the unmitigated GALL to claim he's chasing legacy. Hogwash!!
He made ONE mistake. And my only regret is that one mistake didn't see fit to lay this guy flat on his back. I personally think he held back.
But yeah... I see where you're coming from with Tank. And of course we agree wholeheartedly on Ryan.
Tank has almost the same career. When they call him a 3 division champ I want to puke. Mostly because he really could be, and the fights we missed because he chose to pick and choose to 3 “championships”
As for GGG, I’m especially hard on him because he’s allowed to simply BS. Let me remind you they said anyone from 154-168, they tried to jump up even before they said that to get Steiglitz,(trying to pick up an easy belt) but they were focused on 160 when Ward said let’s do it. But they were ready to jump for Chavez, but focused on 160 in regards to Ward, ready to jump for Froch, but focused on 160 in regards to Ward. And that’s not even the only BS. They said Ward was too big a star and would want too much money, 6 months later they said Ward had to earn his spot back. They went from Ward was too big a star to not big enough with straight faces. That kind of sleaze should be called out. I can find you articles on all of this by the way if you doubt. My thing is, they didn’t even have to fight Ward. Just say you don’t want it, he’s not in your division, you don’t owe it. But don’t lie lie lie lie lie. And then since when you want to avoid Ward you say you’re focused on your division then do that, fight your mandatories! He twice gave up belts rather than fight real challenges. He chose a 154 fighter moving up, off a loss and hadn’t won in 3 years rather than fight to keep his belt. I don’t think stating these facts is too harsh.
On reflection and giving it some thought people are being too nice Ryan. He's a plastic mexican. Man can't even a lick a spanish. No wonder Mexicans avoided this fight like birth control. Mexicans don't claim him. Dude is whitewashed as hell.
What kind of King bends at the knee? Dude looked like he was about to propose. He took a knee better than Colin Kapernick
Tank really is the Mexican slayer. All he does is stomp on mexican fighters. Screw "Tank Davis" his new nickname is the "Mexecutioner"
I'm greeting mexicans with a left hook to the ribs from now on
But seriously only Ryan knows if he quit. Saying he quit doesn't mean he wasn't hurt. Just that he made a conscious choice not to continue. I still think he quit.
We've seen true body shot KO's and the recipients definitely aren't looking at the ref directly in his eyes for the entire 10 count and then standing up immediately after they get counted out.
That was a jab to the body and he was moving back with the punch.... Bxers these days are built more for the press conferences vs the actual battles. It's sad
Tank is definitely very good at using his dwarfism to his advantage. On top of his general defence, the way he gets under to initiate clinches reminds me of the stocky little wrestler bastards you see tossing gangly kickboxers around in MMA. I think he would be a complete nightmare to fight in MMA too if he ever decided he wanted to earn minimum wage.

Found myself rewatching the 2nd round and the clear exact shift than I have the actual KO round. It pretty much defines and sums up everything that has been pointed at Garcia. Granted he came out and stepped up mid round but it was this awkward choppy stuff he was trying to do. Almost trying to muscle Tank up but my god the man has so many predictable patterns with the 'galloping' on his way in, straight line, hands mid torso. Looking more to whip in hooks rather than proper set up off jab...pretty much same way he did vs Tagoe. Leads with same lead left hook without effective right hand behind it. Saw a HL earlier and it was exact. Tank saw it every time, set for counter 2nd time, set again for left counter 3rd time and rifled in a perfect short left hand Ryan could do nothing about and crumpled down. Hard to get a defensive shift when you're hoping straight in off your feet like a friggin Irish tap dance. That post presser was a tale of two results, Garcia sulking and just trying so hard to give atta boys and such an indifferent response to everything asked. I've already seen the standard "well he's young, Sugar Ray Leonard lost early too". They really need to stop with the silly comparisons. All in all glad I saw it live and not repatched or on delay.
Also the 2nd round scoring which was bizarre. But think that had more to do with the 10 point must system. Ryan wins majority of round then gets dropped like a sack of dirty laundry. To me that negates the winning work he did but guess it was too much for all three judges. I always go back to the Holyfield vs Moorer I fight and that 2nd round. Pretty much exactly the same how they played out and judges went 10-10. But that was the difference in Holyfield losing or a draw.

Ryan Garcia was poor and not ready for Tank. He may never ever be.
That body shot was real. No faking that.
