It's comically tragic how no one with individual thought and a backbone has any chance to survive in today's political landscape. Republicans are either flip-flopping, spineless jellyfish (ala Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz)... closet Republicans who privately hate Trump but won't dare say it publicly (ala Mitt Romney)... burnt out martyrs (ala Liz Cheney)... or Trump clone muppets who have taken the bar and lowered it by a dozen feet (ala MTG and other such clowns).
Trump will damage the Republican party for many years to come which the Democrats love now they have worked out what mess he will make of their opposition. Bad for US democracy to have a one party state but until the Republicans can learn to let go of the idiot you all will suffer.
It is never good to have one party in power for a long time.
Good points on the Republican party, and the pitfalls of a one-party political system.
I would add however, that it's the current trend toward extremism that is hurting U.S. democracy and the nation as a whole. "Middle-ground" or moderate views are nothing but lip service. More and more, people are flocking toward extreme positions, like soldiers to battlefield trenches.
I've always leaned more conservative than liberal. "Leaned" being the operative word, because in some issues I side totally with the left. But notice how none of this includes any names. Nowadays, it's impossible to discuss U.S. politics without naming names. It isn't politics anymore. It's fanboyism, similar to the fanboyism we have in boxing. You latch onto a personality... and damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. Doesn't matter if they fukk up or not. Like Minions, people will mindlessly continue to give their unwavering support.
I'll add something else.
Trump has thoroughly damaged the Republican party. But at the same time, some of the mindless liberalism taking over society nowadays is hurting the Democratic one. All you have to do is keep up with the news and some of the issues being thrashed around.
All of this, and not a TRUE LEADER in sight on either side.
