I had this Parker coat but in green which was cheap and a health hazard as the school warned us that we could not see car's crossing the road.

why could you not turn your heads?

Even if you turned your neck you could not see. You had to physically turn your whole body both ways. Very dangerous.

it would seem like common sense to turn your whole body if you couldn't see rather than potentially walking into oncoming traffic. my dad used to tell me about people who would stick forks in the plug sockets or knives in toasters with the power still on or eat pills because they thought they were candy. said it was a form of natural selection to weed out the morons

You would be glad to hear no children at our school had any accidents.

It is called lack of peripheral vision. Makes it very difficult to see the whole picture.
